Girls
400 by Elliot Denman and Rich Gonzalez At last, the Nike girls 400 has a two-time winner. She’s Tiandra Ponteen of Eleanor Roosevelt High in nearby Greenbelt, with a 2003 55-second flat romp to top her 55.54 of 2002. It wasn’t really close, with Virginia Beach’s Faraign Giles (56.02), Denver’s Diane Anderson (56.40) and Chesapeake, Va.’s Leslie Treherne (56.85) trailing Ponteen home. Ponteen only lacked teamly company. The mighty Eleanor Roosevelt squad went 1-2-3 in the 400 last year. Ponteen trailed Diane
Anderson after one lap in 26.3 seconds. Tionda Ponteen of Eleanor Roosevelt High in nearby Greenbelt, Md. won
the 2002 Nike title in 55.54 and was a tad faster than that in her qualifying-round-leading
55.22.
