Toughest Courses

Renaissance Run, Larkspur CO

by Keith Short

The Renaissance Run (5K) in Larkspur, Colorado (approx. 6800 feet
above sea level) is the hardest course I have ever seen. All hills, hills
that make the Hereford Hills look easy. The best runners in Colorado won't
go near it, except for Ian Burrell.

The regional meet was to be held at the site, however, after the
Renaissance Run, most of the coaches felt the course was too strenuous and
dangerous. Last year in early September the race was canceled due to a 1/2 foot
of snow.

This year, the best time ever for girls, was 20:10/ Mckeever. She took
11th at the State Championship. The best time ever for boys was
15:38/Burrell. He won the State Championship, defeating Vaughn.
