High School Coaches Clinic Friday, Dec. 6, 2002 at Mt. San Antonio College, Walnut CA

Four of the West’s all-time most successful high school coaches and two of America’s finest distance runners will speak at this year’s Footlocker Western Regional Cross Country clinic to be held on Friday, December 6 at Mt. SAC College.
Also appearing at the clinic will be elite runners Regina Jacobs, who has won 21 Individual National Championships, and Abdi Abdirahman, USATF 2001 10,000 meter champion. All four of the high school coaches presenting have guided individual and national champions. Pat Tyson is a legend not only in the state of Washington but also all around the country. His Mead teams have won an incredible 13 State Championships and his individuals have had great success in the Footlocker series over the years. Coach Tyson will be presenting sessions on “Creating the Edge” and “Footlocker Finalist-Coaching The Elite Runner”. There may be no program in the nation who can boast greater “Top Ten” lists for 800, 1600 and 3200 meters than Jesuit under the direction of Walt Lange: 14 runners under 1:58, 6 under 4:10.7, and 11 under 9:19. Coach Lange will be presenting sessions on “Developing Great Runners and Teams Isn’t Done Overnight” and “Success Both on the Cross Country Course and The Track”. Ken Reeves has coached more state championship teams while at Nordhoff High School than any other coach in California State history. He will team with Ventura coach, Bill Tokar, to present a full day seminar outlining the philosophy and steps that should be followed to create a successful season long training plan. This seminar will follow a workshop approach where each coach who attends will leave having developed a full training regimen for his or her team.
