DyeStat Foot Locker Favorites
DyeStat picks the top 100 contenders
for the coveted 64 tickets to San Diego.

Midwest Region

by John Dye

Start with the top returning runners from last year's meet, add the best mile and 2-Mile times last spring, and mix with care. You have a list of the DyeStat Foot Locker Favorites for 2002. We revised the lists based on season results. The result is the the strongest candidates to be top 8 in the region and qualify as finalists at San Diego December 14. Most of the finalists should come from this group. But there are always surprises -- returns to form, late bloomers, and unnoticed quality. Last year, sophomore Amber Smith quietly won the Upper Peninsula championship in Michigan last year and went on to run third in the Midwest regional ahead of more publicized runners..

TOP SEEDS - On the eve of the regional meets, we zeroed in on three runners per region. These are the ones we will be most surprised if we don't see in San Diego.

TOP SEEDS = the most likely to qualify; I will be surprised if I don't see the bold faced names on a ticket to San Diego.
