Ferris is the best team in Washington for 2004, and possibly the northwest following their state meet effort to win by 56 points with the fastest team time average of 15:53 since University HS averaged 15:50 in 1998 with three future All-American athletes on board. #2 runner So Robert Cosby had off-day in running 15:52 (ran 15:29 three weeks ago), and former middle school Junior Olympic star Sr Ben Poffenroth ran the race of his life to placed 5th overall and lead Ferris to their second straight title. Oliver was tripped and fell down hard, tried to rejoin the race but could not make a return.

For the third season in a row, Bellarmine Head Coach Matt Ellis had confidence in his girls to take home a state title. He finally got his wish. After #5 runner Sarah Lorch became ill the week prior, the team was hoping their combined efforts would be enough to offset the balance. “A state title is a state title,” said Ellis, overjoyed that his girls got their dream wish.

“I didn’t think we’d won,” said Gig Harbor Head Coach Patty Ley. She had nearly conceded the victory to either Bellarmine Prep or Snohomish, only to find out the results had came down to a tie. Gig’s #6 was a mere 10-seconds behind Bellarmine’s. Also, #5 runner Gabrielle Seifert (19:46 at district meet) had off day, with similar effort would have dropped team score by approximately 10 points for a win. Overall, team competed their best to date.
