Boys: Individual Champion jr- Matt
Tebo of
Eldorado ran the #3 all-time time on the Academy course. The same course
has now been used 30 times in the past 11 years. Eldorado sat #2 runner.
All other teams at full strength. SW#1/US#18 Academy boy
ran a top-5 average time of 16:49 which is :01 second slower then our
average time one year ago at the same meet. All other teams are SW unranked.
Both Gallup and Los Alamos were previously SW ranked.
Girls: I thought this race went pretty well for us despite
off races by Allison and Laynee. Both ran under 20:30 in our time trial
earlier in the year but are recovering from sickness. Erin Madden really
stepped up for us to realize her potential. I'm not sure how the conditions
were for this meet last year but looking at the times I think maybe the
heat slowed down the varsity races a little. In comparing us to the Los
Alamos team from last year, I think we still stack up pretty evenly.
#1 for Los Alamos last year was Kristen Hemphill with an amazing time
of 18:39. #1 for Eldorado was Julie Brasher at 19:56. #2 for Los Alamos
last year was Marissa Sandoval at 20:11. #2 for Eldorado was Erin Madden
at 20:07. #3 for Los Alamos was Megan Stockton. She did not compete last
year but ran 21:01 this year. #3 for Eldorado was Rachel Velarde at 20:11.
#4 for Los Alamos last year was Anna Miller at 20:47. #4 for Eldorado
was Laynee Valverde at 20:41. #5 for Los Alamos last year was Annalisa
Sandoval at 21:01. #5 for Eldorado was Allison Bedonie at 20:46. With
the exception of the #1 runner, we probably beat Los Alamos of last year
runner for runner. We will be training through our next meet at Santa
Fe Indian and will be practicing pack running tactics as I think our
pack time should be closer to 30 seconds. I think if we can stay healthy,
we will continue to dominate New Mexico and hopefully demonstrate our
worth to the NTN selection comittee. If you would like any additional
