Fort Collins Boys Continue Undefeated Season at 33-team John Martin Invitational

SW #1 and US #7 Fort Collins High School Boys at John Martin Invite

Course and conditions:  Partly cloudy, mid 70s, elevation 5000’.  Course consists of 50% sidewalk/pavement and 50% grass on rolling grounds around Fort Collins High School.

The new SW#1 Fort Collins boys hosted their home invitational in honor of previous coach John Martin, with 32 other teams from around Colorado and Wyoming.  Once again their pack time of 1:24 from lead runner Noah Shannon to their fifth runner in 19th place proved too much for second place Cherry Creek High School, as FCHS took first with 48 points to Cherry Creek’s 74.   The Lambkin boys placed three runners in the top 10 with Noah Shannon in 3rd, Tyler Abbey in 5th, and Paul Brown in 9th.

Girls Division 1 Race a close one between two top SW teams!

The Division 1 Girls Varsity Race with Katie Follett of FCHS in the lead at 1200m.

SW #7 Cherry Creek and SW #8 Fort Collins girls ran a close race in Fort Collins at the John Martin Invitational.  Katie Follett of Fort Collins took an early lead and never gave it up, and freshman Miranda Benzel ran 4th overall to lead the Lambkins.  But, the Cherry Creek girls placed their first six runners from 6th through 13th place, to edge out Fort Collins by a margin of 44 to 55 points.  SW #3 Rocky Mountain’s varsity ran at Roy Griak in Minnesota, and SW #9 Fairview’s varsity ran at Great American, but both teams sent other runners to this invitational to finish 6th and 5th respectively.  Fort Collins is still running without their #3 runner, but should be at full strength in a couple weeks.

In the Division 2 race, Kaitie Vanatta of Ralston Valley took first in 17:49.3, the Thompson Valley team took first with 50 points, and Sand Creek second with 78 points.
