SW#5 Rock Springs flexed its considerable muscles to score an overwhelming win in the 4A Wyoming State Meet Saturday in Cheyenne and share the spotlight with a very young Glenrock team that eked out a two-point victory in 3A.

Campbell County High School won 4A, Douglas 3A, and Rocky Mountain 2A in girls competition and Wyoming Indian High School won boys 2A. The 2A team championships are decided by scoring only the top four runners.

Rock Springs dominated the boys 4A by taking places 1-2-4-5-8, winning with a score of 20, followed by Campbell County at 72 and Cheyenne Central with 86. Zac Reiter (16:09), Greg Griffith (16:15), Will Miller (16:39), Dustin Gibson (16:49), and Will Parker (17:03) brought home Rock Springs with a 54-second gap among its top five.

Glenrock team got clutch performances from three freshmen to beat Douglas, 70-72, in 3A boys competition. Both teams had 25 points from their first three runners when Josh Humphries of Douglas put his team ahead by taking 17th. But frosh Dillon Woodin (21st/18:57) and Casey Reeves (24th.19:11) got in before Douglas's fifth man to seal the win. Freshman Devin Collins was top man for Glenrock, taking third in 17:37. Next came senior Chance Hiser (7th/18:02), followed by sophomore Nick Allington (15th/18:27). Seventh man Rick Alexander is also a freshman. Toby Patterson, a Douglas junior, was the individual winner in 17:32, barely holding off Trevor Ricks of Star Valley who finished in the same time.

Riley Tall Whiteman and Terrance Posey took 1-2 to pace Wyoming Indian High School to the 2A crown. They ran 17:38 and 17:40. Mike Friday (11th/19:05) and Leland Hill (12th/19:12) completed the win. Wyoming Indian beat Saratoga, 24-30. Scoring a fifth runner would have given Saratoga a one-point win.

Ashlen Nimmo of Rock Springs was a 33-second winner in girls 4A over Victoria Crockett of Cheyenne Central in 19:16. Trisha Evenson was Campbell County's first finisher in 5th (19:57), but she was closely followed by Megan Gebhart (6th/20:02), Ashleigh Anderson (11th/20:25), Sarah Gross (13th/20:28), and Sage Goddard (15th/20:37), giving Campbell County a 40-second gap between its first and fifth runners and a winning score of 48. Rock Springs followed with 71, three points ahead of Cheyenne Central.

Glenrock freshman -- what else could you expect of Glenrock? a senior? -- Brooke Hughes was the 3A winner in 20:22 as Douglas placed its runners between 3rd and 17th to win with a score of 81, well ahead of Lander Valley (81) and Glenrock (111). Kelsey Shatto (3rd/20:44), Missy Christiansen (7th/21:05), Rachel Saunders (12th/22:05), Tonya Chamberlain (14th/22:15), and Megan Clark (17th/22:28) won the meet for Douglas.

Rocky Mountain took 1-3-6-7 to win the 2A with a score of 17, beating Wright by 15 points. Seniors Emily Higgins (1st/19:35) and Alyson Bernhisel (6th/23:00) teamed with freshmen Brandy Bullinger (3rd/21:32) and Lauren Dunleavy (8th/23:30) for the win.
