BOYS:

1, Fort Collins, CO

The SW#1/US #6 Fort Collins boys continued their undefeated season by taking the top six places in the traditional Fort Collins City Meet. Noah Shannon took the lead shortly after the mile mark to lead the way for the Lambkins in a time of 16:33. He was followed by teammates Tyler Abbey (2nd/16:46), Paul Brown (3rd/16:55), Will Everett (4th/17:14), and Bryant Mason (5th/17:21). That's a nice 48-second 1-5 pack gap. 3, Albuquerque Academy, NM

US#10 Albuquerque Academy placed all five scorers in the top 20 to win the Albuquerque City Championships over defending 5A state champs La Cueva, 48-76. Academy's five-man average time of 16:30.2 is the third best ever on the 11-year-old course which has been home to 32 invitational or championship meets. The 16:30.2 is 10.6 seconds per man faster then Albuquerque Academy’s 2004 team at this meet last year. Conditions were favorable with cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 60s.

Matt Tebo of Eldorado tied the Academy championship course record of 15:21 for 3.025 miles set by Shadrack Kiptoo of La Cueva in 2003 (2003 Footlocker Nationals - 3rd place). Says Coach Jim Buter, "this makes Tebo a serious contender for the Footlocker Nationals".

4, Page, AZ

US#11 Page came roaring back to Arizona Friday. After a 50-53 defeat at the hands (feet, really) of Albuquerque Academy two weeks ago at the Curtis Williams Invitational in Gallup, NM, Page put the hurt on the field of the Bud Davis Invitational.

Coach Mark Lomeland's runners took 2-3-4-5-7 and 10, for good measure, in winning with a score of 21, a margin of of 72 points over second place host Tuba City in the 13-team meet.

Weston Jones of Red Mesa was the individual winner in 17:59 on the 3.1-mile course in typical Arizona hot and sunny weather. Antonio Smith (2nd/18:26), Donovan Tsinnijinnie (3rd/18:34), Levi Lomeland (4th/18:35), and Nathan Lee (5th/18:36) took the next four places for Page, just 10 seconds apart. Javier Jim followed two places and 15 seconds later, Tomai Bitsoi was 10th in 19:16. That's a 25-second gap from 1-5 and 50 seconds for 1-6.

It looks like Page is ready for Mt. Sac where it will run Friday because of academic commitments Saturday.

Rachel Valverde fell at about the 1.3 mile mark and did not finish. " At this time. coach Jim Butler said, "I am not sure what caused her to fall but she appears to be uninjured. Obviously my first priority is her health. Over the next two weeks I will be doing everything possible to see that she is healthy and ready to race for our district meet."

"Laura really stepped up and saved us at this meet," Butler added. "She ran a huge PR and secured the victory for us. Our
average time was 19:54 without Rachel at this meet. Previously, at the Academy Invite we had averaged 20:20 with her so we are progressing nicely. Next week we do not have a meet and then the week after that we will be hosting our district meet against Highland, Los Lunas, Manzano, and Rio Grande."

OTHERS TO WATCH:

St. Michael's put five runners in the top 12 to win the girls championship at the Capital City Invitational in Santa Fe, NM. Irene Ossola and Tess Amer ran 1-2 for The victors in 18:48 and 18:55. Patty Murray (7th/20:12), Katie Behm (11th/20:41), and Carolyn Ives (12th/20:42) completed the 33-point winning score.

This is a team average of 19:51.6 compared to the 20:29.8 average by eventual US#3 Los Alamos in 2003 on a course that was then 0.06-miles longer. The change was due to safety issues.
