Albuquerque City Championships Cody Harper 16:02 leads SW#3 Albuquerque Academy boys to 7th straight city title. La Cueva had a 15 point margin at the 1 mile mark but the Chargers (SW #3 US #18) stormed back to win by a dominating margin of 63 points (Academy 27, La Cueva 90). Academy was paced by sr. Cody Harper in a wining time of 16:02. 2nd was NM 5A favorite so. Matt Tebo of Eldorado. Harper’s 16:02 was well of the course record of 15:21 by Shadrack Kiptoo from 2003 but was the #8 all time mark on the Academy course. The course has now been run in 25 different invitational or championship meets. The Albuquerque Academy Charger boys had 4 individuals in the All-City top-7. sr. Mitch Bible 3rd, so. Dustin Martin 5th, and sr. Keith Blumenfeld 6th. Team Results: Academy 27
GirlsLa Cueva is beginning to makes some noise in New Mexico. Lead by three girls in the top-10 the Bears upset the defending City champs Albuquerque Academy. Pacing the Bears was the tandem of Laura Lavezo and Lesley Martinson at 6th and 7th respectively. Look for La Cueva to press Gallup for the title come November 6th at state in Red Rocks Sate Park outside of Gallup. Individual winner was Vanessa Ortiz of Cibola with the #10 all-time mark on Academy’s course. All-City performers that join Ortiz (1st) are Lyndsay Harper, Academy 2nd, Ariel Emig, Academy 3rd, Kate Wiederholt, Del Norte 4th, Anna Petrov, Eldorado 5th and the pair from La Cueva mentioned above.
