Headline: HL #10 Marian, Omaha girls and HL #2 SMNW boys win Millard South Invite in Omaha

Nebraska

Millard South Invitational @ Walnut Grove Park, Omaha 9/9/05

HL#2 Shawnee Mission Northwest drove up from Kansas and won the boy's title with 45 points. Tucker Weems led Northwest, winning the hilly 5k in a time of 16:03, moving away from Todd Gulizia (Millard South) late in the race. Guliza, winner of last week's Burke Invitational, was second at 16:18. Northwest was followed in the team scoring by Millard North (61), Creighton Prep, Omaha (102), Bellevue West (117), Papillion-LaVista (129) and Lincoln East (139).

In the girls race HL#10 Marian, Omaha put five runners in the top thirteen to dominate with 45 points. Millard West was second with 83, followed by Millard North (106), Lincoln East (117), Free State, Lawrence KS 138, and Shawnee Mission Northwest 146. Free State's Alysha Valencia roared away to a 15:24 4k win, with Brittany Poole (Millard West) second at 15:56.

Fremont Bergen Invitational @ Camp Calvin Crest 9/9/05

In one of the top small school invites in Nebraska, Gretna scored 30 to dominate the boys division, with Yutan (60) edging Louisville on the pusher for second. Tom Whitney led Gretna, winning in 17:42 for 5k with Cory Logsdon (Fort Calhoun) second at 18:01. Lutheran, Lincoln won the girls division with 32 points, with East Butler (41) and Ft. Calhoun (59) second and third. Korissah Spatz (East Butler) won with 18:18 over 4k, with Tara Meador (Ft. Calhoun) second at 18:22.

 

KANSAS

Hutchinson Invitational @ Carey Park, Hutchinson 9/8/05

Top schools from Western Kansas met at Carey Park in Hutchinson, with the Hays girls looking very strong with 27 second spread for all seven runners, with all in the first 15. Hays scored 39 points, with Hutchinson second with 111. Hutch was led by individual champ Lauren Bonds, who scored a 16:38 4k win, despite having to double back twice after wrong turns on the looped course. Sloane Kern led the Great Bend boys to the team title, winning the 5k race in 16:47 by over 45 seconds. Great Bend scored 39 points, with Maize second with 69.

Hesston Invitational @ Hesston Golf Park 9/8/05 Flash result-team complete results and team scores will be reported later

Ben Histand of Newton ripped off a 16:15 5k to win the junior-senior 6A-5A-4A division by over a minute. Teammate Scott Isaac won the 6A-5A-4A freshman race in 18:00. Kaleb Humphrey (Sterling) won the 3A-2A-1A sophomore race in 17:17 and Tyler Jensen (Ellsworth) won the 3A-2A-1A senior race in 17:36.

Quinter Invitational @ Quinter 9/8/05

Holcomb, top ranked in class 2A, dominated the Quinter invitational to win the boys division with 30 points. Quinter was second with 80 and Hill City third with 93. Karman Selby (Brewster) won a long 5k in 18:13. Oakley won the girls division with 32 points, with Wheatland, Grainfield second with 53 and Hill City third with 83. Aubrey Frederkine of Ellis won the girls 2 mile in 13:30.


MINNESOTA

Faribault Invitatonal @ North Alexander Park, Faribault 9/9/05

Minnesota powers Stillwater (57) and HL#6 Eden Prairie (60) hooked up in a torrid boy's duel at the Faribault invite. Eden Prairie appeared ahead after four runners, but Stillwater's fifth finished in 19th compared to Eden Prairie's 30th to clinch Stillwater's narrow win. Eastview was third with 117. Mike Torchia (Lourdes, Rochester) ran 15:36 over 5k to win, with Ryan Little leading Eden Prairie in second (15:48). Elliot Heath (Winona) was third at 15:57, with Devin Corey (Eden Prairie 16:16) and Paul Hilsen (16:32 Lakeville South) completing the top five. Stillwater's Kyle Coughlin (16:41), Ben Blakenship (16:41) and Andrew Stevens (16:45) formed a tight pack in 6-7-8.

Apple Valley put four runners into the top fifteen to win the girls title with 70 points. HL#7 Roseville Area was second with 94, and Dover-Eyota-St. Charles scored 142 to edge White Bear Lake (144) for third. Lakeville South freshman Michelle Volz ran 14:28 for 4k to win, edging Carolyne Baird (Stillwater 14:30). Katie Dyson (Roseville Area 14:37), Melanie Funke (Minot ND 14:42), Jenny Rodgers (Apple Valley 14:51) and Jen Lang (Apple Valley 14:59) all broke 15:00 in places three through six.

Webster Groves Invitational 9/8/05

Webster Groves scored 59 to win the boys division of it's home invite, with Fox, Arnold second with 69 and Parkway Central, St. Louis third with 103. Andrew Weiser (Parkway Central, St. Louis) ran 16:47 for 5k to win, with Kevin Arends (Webster Grove) second at 17:13 and John-Mark Lewis (Poplar Bluff) third at 17:20.

Parkway Central, St. Louis edged Kirkwood 53-55 for the girls title, with Seckman, St. Louis third with 155. Kathleen Thompson led Parkway Central, winning in 20:36 for 5k, with Sandy Inman (Notre Dame) second at 20:52 and Alex Vaenberg (Parkway Central) third at 21:17.
