4A REGIONALS: (The top 3 teams qualify out of each regional, plus the top 10 individuals. Boys - 5k, girls - 2 miles)

Hiawatha Regional 10/22/05

Top end strength helped give DeSoto the boys team title, as the Wildcats went 1 (Tanner Manamara 17:06), 2 (Adam Justice 17:10) and 4 (Chris Dvorak (17:18). Cody Burns of Eudora was third in 16:18 and Matt Brock of Tonganoxie fifth in 17:30. DeSoto scored 42 points, with Bonner Springs (93) second and Tonganoxie (93) third in a tight team battle that left Jefferson County West (95) and Eudora (97) home from state.

Eudora also used top end power to win the girls title. Brittney Graff (12:01) and Megan Ballock (12:15) placed first and second. Mogan Frehe (DeSoto) was third at 12:19, with Christy Weller (Tonganoxie) fourth at 12:45 and Lauren Karnits (DeSoto) fifth at 12:46. Eudora scored 35 points, with DeSoto second with 49. Tonganoxie placed third with 115 to take the final state berth with Perry-Lecompton fourth with 148.

Labette County Regional @ Altamount 10/22/05

Baldwin swept to the titles in both the girls and boys races. In the boys race, Spring Hill's Miles Acinger pulled away to a 16:44 5k triumph. Luke Hall (Girard) placed second in 17:03,with Chris Elniff leading Baldwin in third in 17:06. Jake Orndorff (El Dorado) was fourth in 17:20 with Grant Catloth (Baldwin 17:22) edging El Dorado's Bobby Morton (17:23) for fifth. Baldwin won with 48 points, with El Dorado second with 69. Independence took the final qualifying spot in third with 93 points, with Louisburg fourth with 115.

Heather Garcia returned from injury to lead Baldwin to the girls title, running 12:15 to shade Laura Nightengale (El Dorado 12:19). Anna Yost (Girard) placed third in a strong field at 12:32, with Kelsey Verhage (Baldwin no time listed) and Madison Shoemaker (12:45) giving Baldwin three runners in the top five. Baldwin used that advantage to score 39 points, with El Dorado second with 50. Iola (109) edged Girard (119) for the final qualifying spot.
