Sunflower League 10/15/05 @ Rimrock Farm, Lawrence 10/15/05

Shawnee Mission Northwest won both the varsity boy's and girl's races in the Sunflower League championships. The meet, featuring six 6A state ranked boys teams and four state ranked girls teams, is considered by many to be the toughest league meet in Kansas. In the boy's race Tucker Weems (15:41 5k) and Bret Imgrund (16:23) ran a strong 1-2 for SMNW to lead the Cougars to a 26 point total. Josh Weems (4th 16:39) and Rick Stahl (5th 16:51) went 4-5 for the Cougars, with John McCormick (SM East) placing third at 16:35 for break up the Northwest pack. Following Northwest in the team race was Lawrence (105) and Free State, Lawrence (106).

The girl's varsity race saw a see-saw battle as six runners quickly packed and broke open from the field. At the two mile mark Olathe East's Amanda Miller and Olathe South's Keli Russell pulled away on the long down hill, with Russell making a strong move up the Billy Mills Incline to pull away to win in 15:07 for 4k, with Miller second at 15:14. Rebeka Stowe (Olathe Northwest 3rd 15:28), Kyra Kilwein (Free State 4th 15:31), Kelly Renfro (Lawrence 5th 15:32) made up the top five ,while Heather Klotz (Leavenworth 6th 15:48) edged early leader Alysha Valencia (Free State 7th 15:50). Shawnee Mission Northwest won with 60 points, with Olathe South (79), Lawrence (86) and Olathe East (98) in 2-3-4.

Wichita City League Championships @ Cessna Activities Center 10/15/05

Bishop Carroll, Wichita put seven boys into the top fifteen to dominate the Wichita City League championships over the always quick Cessna Activities Center course. David Slagle led Carroll, winning in 16:34, with Zack Conroy of Wichita West second at 16:38. Slagle moved away from early leader Conroy over the final hill on the course. Bryce Volz (Carroll 16:41), Cody Bell (Wichita South 16:42) and Martyn Harrison (Heights, Wichita 16:50 completed the top five. Carroll scored 28 points to win, with rival Kapaun-Mt. Carmel second with 74 and Wichita West third with 103.

In the girl's race, KMC's Ryan Ayres moved away from Elizabeth Marsh (Wichita East) with about a mile to go and race to a 15:34 to 15:38 win. Debra Harlow (Wichita South 15:42), Briana Gomez (KMC 15:49) and Abby Searle (KMC 15:56) completed the top five. Kapuan Mt. Carmel won their fifth consecutive City title with 31 points. Bishop Carroll was second with 83, edging Wichita East's 85.

Centennial League Meet @ Stateland Cross Country Course, Topeka 10/15/05

Emporia edged Junction City for the boys team title, and Seaman, Topeka continued to dominate their races in the girls division. Skyler Delmott led Empora, winning the hilly 5k in 16:12. Tim Testa (Junction City) was second at 16:27, edging Mauricio Morales (Emporia 16:31). Fourth and fifth went to Matt Bilhimer (Shawnee Heights, Topeka 16:53) and Ian Silvosky (Junction City 17:05). Emporia (45) and Junction City (52) traded scorers down the line, with Manhattan (80) edging Shawnee Heights (91) for third.

In the girl's race, Michaela Reynolds (Emporia) pulled away from Tamera Smith (Junction City) to win by a quick 15:06 to 15:16 margin. Autumn Kidwell led the Seaman charge in third (15:36), followed by teammates Sidney Messick (15:43) and Hannah Law (15:50). Seaman won with 27 points. With Emporia second with 74 and Manhattan third with 91.

Christian, Kansas City dominated the boy's team race, scoring 19 points, with Jackson Heights second with 65 and Jeff Co North third with 76. Nick Anning led KC Christian, winning over 5k in 17:29, edging Nathan Long of Wathena (17:31). Wes Weishaar (Jeff Co North) was a close third at 17:32, with Danny Sojka (KC Christian) also in the hunt at 17:33. Jackson Heights won the girls title with 34 points, with Christian second with 43 and Doniphan West third with 93. Jody Wilhelm led Jackson Heights, winning over two miles at 12:46, with Amanda Zeit (Doniphan West) leading the chase pack at 13:43 and Melissa Anderson (Jackson Heights) third at 13:46

Frontier League @ Rimrock Farm 10/14/05

Baldwin swept both the boy's and girl's team titles at the Frontier League meet. The boys scored 34 points, with Louisburg second with 89 and DeSoto third with 112. Miles Acinger (Spring Hill) cruised a 16:50 5k to win the individual title, with Chris Elniff leading Baldwin in second at 17:07. Grant Catloth (Baldwin 17:20), Jason Rose (Louisburg 17:21) and Keith Cowart (Baldwin 17:24) completed the top five.

Brittney Graff (Eudora) stormed an 11:44 2 mile for the girl's title, with Morgan Frehe (DeSoto) second at 12:01 and Kelsey Vergaighe (Baldwin) third at 12:14. Lauren Karnitz (DeSoto) was fourth at 12:24 and Madison Shoemaker (Baldwin fifth at 12:32. Baldwin scored 44 to shade DeSoto (55) with Eudora a close third (58).

Lake Conference @ Eagan HS 10/14/05

Elizabeth Yetzer zipped a 14:06 4k to win the Lake Conference title and lead Lakeville North to the team crown. Yetzer pulled away from second place Michelle Volz (14:39) of cross-town Lakeville South, with Danielle Berndt (Kennedy, Bloomington) third at 14:45. Jenny Rodgers (Apple Valley) was fourth at 14:53 and Sirra McCauley (15:00 Apple Valley) was fifth. Solange Miller (Lakeville North 15:03) was sixth with McKenzie Melander (Eastview 15:05), Jen Lang (Apple Valley 15:08), Paige Ties (Eden Prairie 15:09) and Kayla Uphoff (Lakeville South 15:15) rounding out the top ten in a deep fast field. Lakeville North put all their scorers in the top twenty to win with 45 points, with Apple Valley second with 66 and Eden Prairie third with 97.

Lakeville North also won the boys race with 63 points, edging Rosemont (69) and Eden Prarie (72). Tim Bruhn led Lakeville North, winning in 16:09 over 5k. Devin Cory (Eden Prairie) led a tight pack in second at 16:18, with Rob Finnerty (Burnsville 16:20) right behind in third. Ryan Little (Eden Prairie) was furth in 16:24, with Tyler King (16:24) in fifth led a Lakeville North pack of Ben Plankis (7th 16:49) and Jeff Lombardo (8th 16:53), with Lakeville South's Paul Hilsen sixth (16:33).

Suburban East Conference @ Stacy 10/12/05

Stillwater dominated the boy's division of the Suburban East meet, scoring 39 points to win. Mounds View was second with 73, just ahead of Roseville's 75. Tim Branigan (Roseville) easily won the individual title, running 15:52. The Stillwater trio of Andrew Stevens (16:20), Ben Blakenship (16:20) and Kyle Coughlan (16:24) ran 2-3-4, with Ian Bauer (Roseville) firth at 16:33. Roseville put four scorers in the top ten to win the girl's title with 41 points, with Stillwater second (65) and White Bear Lake (70) third. Carolyn Baird (Stillwater 14:33 4k) just edged Katie Dyson (Roseville 14:35) for the title with Stillwater's Cailtin Olson (14:37) and White Bear Lake's Katie Moraczewski (14:38) also close.

Missota Conference @ St. Catherine's 10/13/05

Prior Lake dominated the Missota Conference girl's race, scoring 20 points, and putting four runners in the top five. Meghan Heuer led the Prior parade, winning in 15:28 (4k), with Katelyn Meger (New Prauge) second at 15:28. Sarah Heuer (15:35), Paige Foster (15:43) and Grace Chandler (15:48) filled 3-5 for Prior Lake. New Prague (52) was second and Northfield (87) third. Northfield won the boy's title with 38 points, with Hutchinson second (68) and Red Wing third (91). Bryan Kegley (Hutchinson 16:51 5k) won the boy's title with Richie Mark (Red Wing 16:56) just edging Kyle Schmidt (Hutchinson 16:56) for second. Sam Lane led Northfield in fourth (16:59).

Northwest Suburban Conference @ Anoka 10/13/05

Osseo (67), Elk River (68) and Maple Grove (73) staged a thrilling team race for the girl's team title. Emma Bates (Elk River) won the individual title with a 15:08 4k, with the Osseo duo of Kate Reins (15:16) and Michelle Boursier (15:26 ) in second and third. Caitlin Polgreen (Elk River 15:43) and Cassie Egler (Maple Grove 15:51) were also under 16:00 in 4-5. Suedi Murekezi (Coon Rapids) won the boy's title in 16:29 for 5k, with the Park Center trio of Ken Gilkerson (16:34) Aaron Gorman (16:43) and Dylan Cahill (16:45) running 3-4-5, just ahead of Osseo's Andy Hawkinson (16:46 5th) and Josh Letofsky (16:46 6th). Park Center scored 40 to win, with Osseo second with 73. Coon Rapids (89) edged Andover (91) for third.


Missouri

Suburban Conference Big Seven Championship 10/15/05

HL#1 Liberty won the boy's meet by a 40-56 margin over previously ranked Blue Springs, with Lee's Summit North third with 69. Jacob Boone (Lee's Summit North), the defending MO 4A 3200 track champ, won the meet with a 15:57 5k. Kip Hill led Liberty in second with a 16:06, with Josh Rollins (Blue Springs) third at 16:24. Daniel Harkins (Blue Springs 16:32) and Stephen Ardoin (Lee's Summit 16:33) rounded out the top five.

Blue Springs (41) and Lee's Summit North (43) upended HL#10 Liberty (54) girls in an intense battle of three of Missouri's top teams. Lee's Summit North, the defending 4A state champ, appears to be rounding back into contention. Ashley Mark (Lee's Summit North) won the conference title in 19:24 (5k), with team mate Katie Dwyer (19:38) second. Marlee Tegenkamp (Lee's Summit) was third at 19:53, with Lydia Newland (Liberty 19:58) and Lauren Carr (Liberty 20:08) rounding out the top five.

Suburban Conference Big Six Championship (Lake Jacomo, Blue Springs) 10/14/05

James Tong ran 17:04 for 5k to win the Big Six title, and led his North Kansas City team to a 32 point total and the team title. Alex Troncoso ran 17:19 to give NKC a 1-2 finish, with Robert Schaaf (St. Joseph Central 17:26), Blake Houston (Park Hill South, Kansas City 17:37) and Robert Rivera (St. Joseph Central 17;44) rounding out the top five. In the girls race Truman, Independence totaled 47 to edge Park Hill South (55), with Kaaecly Vanarsdall (Ft. Osage, Independence) winning the individual title in 20:30 over 5k. Carrie Roberts led Truman in second (21:00), with Temer Yimer (Park Hill South) third at 21:26. Annie Benedict (St. Joseph Central 21:39) and Jenessa Froude (Park Hill South 22:00) completed the top five.

Warrensburg Invitational 10/15/05

Warrensburg scored 55 points to win the boys team title, with Smith-Cotton, Sedalia second with 97 and Pleasant Hill third with 107. Trevor Johannsen (Clinton) ran 16:03 over 5k for the individual title, with Matt Haffner (Pleasant Hill 16:11) second. DJ Slifer led Warrensburg in third (16:22) with Daneial Everhart (Turner, Kansas City KS 16:25) and Graham Laird (Pembroke Hill, Kansas City 16:28) rounding out the top five.

Jamie Haffner (Pleasant Hill) won the girl's individual title in 19:37 over 5k, with Kelsey Wells (Cass-Midway) second at 20:20 and Anna Zahner (Pembroke Hill) third at 20:26. Annie Lowe (Clinton 20:32) and Annie Forman (Pembroke Hill 20:36) were fourth and fifth. Warrensburg (62) edged Pembroke Hill (68) for the team titel with Clinton a close third (72).

St. Genevieve dominated the girls division at the Borgia Invite, putting three runners in the top ten and scoring 34 points. Ladue was second with 105, edging Borgia (106). Jessica Bollinger led St. Genevieve, winning in 19:22 over 5k. Nicole Kampmann (Union) was second in 19:42, with Brandi Gerbais (Waynesville) third at 20:02.

GAC Conference @ Washington 10/14/05

Ft. Zumwalt South continued their great season, winning the boy's title with a perfect 15 point score. Nathan Young led FZS, winning in 16:28 for 5k, and was followed across the line by teammates Kyle Rood (16:40), Pat Cole (16:54), Brandon Funderburk (17;02) Ryan Moore (17:03) and Adam Kell (17:08) as FZS took seven of the first eight places. Francis Howell, St. Charles was second with 81, and Francis Howell North, St. Charles third with 95, edging Washigton's 99.

Mary Northum led Washington to the girl's team title, running 19:23 over 5k to win by over a minute and a half. Hanna Colter (Washington 21:00) was second and Nora Colter (Washington 21:23) was third. Monica Noble (Francis Howell North 21:36) and M.E. Seeling (Francis Howell North 21:41) were fourth and fifth. Washington scored 27 to win, with Ft. Zumwalt South (57 second) and Ft. Zumwalt West (86) edging Francis Howell North (87) for third.

St. Francis Borgia Invitational @ Washington 10/15/05

Jessica Bollinger led St. Genevieve to the team title at the Borgia Invitational, running 19:22 for 5k to win. Nicole Kampmann (Union) was second at 19:42, with Brandi Berbais (Waynesville 20:02), Megan Korwallk (Wright City 20:27) and Lori Forck (Blair Oaks, Jefferson City 20:29) in 3-4-5. St. Gevevieve won easily with 34 points, with Ladue (105) second, edging host Borgia (106).

In a close boy's race Priory, St. Louis edged University, St. Louis (apparently resting some runners) by two points 83-85 for the team title. Helias, Jefferson City was third with 115. Brennan Benkert (St. Clair) won by a wide margin in 16:37 for 5k, with Andrew Tobben (Borgia) second at 17:07, and teammate Brian Holdmeyer third (17;09). Suburban West Conference Meet @ Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis 10/15/05

Ben Brammeier dashed a 15:58 5k over Jefferson Barracks course to win by over forty seconds, and lead Parkway South, St. Louis to a clear win with 25 points. Marquette, St. Louis was second with 95 points in a tight race, defeating Lafayette, St. Louis on the sixth runner tie-breaker, with Kirkwood (100) and Fox, Arnold (104) close. Brammeier was followed across the line by Parkway South teammates Kirk Chitwood (16:44) and Ryan Briggs (16:58). Andy Mikes (House Springs Northwest) was fourth in 17:03 and Jake Bostic (Fox 17:16) was fifth.

Laura Gosen (19:34 5k) led Marquette to the team title with her individual win in the girls' division. Emily Baker (Lafayette, St. Louis 19:44) and Hilary Orf (Marquette 19:48) were also under 20:00, with Katie Noonan (Marquette 20:32) and Ashley Lane (Kirkwood 20:44) fourth and fifth. Marquette won with 27 points, with Lafayette second 67 and Kirkwood 77 third.

Jefferson County Conference @ Herculaneum 10/15/05

Kelly Williams of Herculaneum zipped to a 18:58 5k to win the girl's title. with Alysa Alison (Festus) a quick second at 19:19. Megan Hudson (Crystal City 20:09), Chelsie Moore (Herculaneum 20:19) and Elise Moloney (Herculaneum 20:27) rounded out the top five. Herculaneum easily took the team title with 25 points, with DeSoto (66) and Festus (77) following. Sean Swapp gave Herculaneum a double champ, winning the boys title in 16:36 for 5k. Chris Pearl (Hillsboro) was second at 17:01, leading a tight pack of Jessi Koeker (17:02) and Kyle Beart (17:03), both of Perryville. Perryville (40) edged Herculaneum (43) for the boy's crown, with DeSoto (84) third.

Jamestown won both the boys and girls divisions of the Fargo Invitational to take the combined boys/girls team crowns. Sam Larson led Jamestown with 12:55 4k win, while Katie Conlon ran 11:13 to edge teammate Madey Hornung (11:14) a short two mile course.

Greater Dakota Conference @ Sioux Falls 10/14/05 (girls report)

Krista (14:33 4k) and Allison (14:35 4k) Eckert both broke the course record and ran 1-2 to give Roosvelt, Sioux Falls a jump start to the team title at the Greater Dakota Conference meet in Sioux Falls. Roosevelt put five runners in the top fifteen to win with 30 points, with O' Gorman, Sioux Falls second with 55 and Stevens, Rapid City third with 75.
Jessica Engle (Sturgis) also broke 15:00 in third at 14:56, with Jennifer Richards(Rapid City Central 15:00) and Paige Orcutt (O'Gorman 15:03 rounding out the top five.
