Ankeny Invitational 9/29/05 FLASH RESULTS - STILL AWAITING INDIVIDUAL PLACES

Ames place five runners in the top twenty and won a close battle for the girl's team title, winning with 54 points, with Ankeny (57) second and Johnston (58) third in a battle of highly regarded western Iowa teams. Roosevelt, Des Moines won the boy's title with 52 points, with Ames (74) second and Ankeny (80) third.

Shenendoah Invitational 9/29/05 PARTIAL RESULTS

Hillary Sadler ripped a 15:00 4k to lead her Lewis-Central squad to the girl's team title at the Shenendoah Invitational. Lewis Central scored 98 to edge Lincoln (101) and Glenwood (105) for the title. Skutt, Omaha NE won the boy's team title with 56 points, edging Clarinda's 57 by a single digit, with Jefferson third at 99. No individual boy's placings were reported yet.

Bud Williams Invitational @ U. of Iowa CC Course, Iowa City 9/27/05

Iowa City High rested varsity runners in both the boy's and girl's races, and still came away with victories in the Bud Williams Invite. Iowa City's boy's were led by Mike Shoemaker's 16:24 5k win, and scored 19 to defeat Jefferson, Cedar Rapids second place total by 50 points. Lisa Collogan (Des Moines East) ran 15:20 for 4k to win, with City High scoring 30 points to defeat second place Pekin (74).

Clinton Invitational 9/30/05

Bettendorf (60) edged Marshalltown (69) for the boy's team title with Xavier, Cedar Rapids (136) edging Pleasant Valley (138) for third. Stephen Dak (Marshalltown) destroyed the field, blasting a 15:35 5k to win by almost a minute. Brett Carter (Dowling, West Des Moines) was second at 16:24 and Corbin Miller (Marshalltown) third at 16:36. Nineteen teams competed. Girls action saw Urbandale scored 44 to defeat a split Iowa City West squad (60). Xavier, Cedar Rapids was third at 95. Stephanie Mundt ( 14:13 4k) and Cassie Sokol (14:46) started Urbandale off with a 1-3 finish, with Jill Lageschulte (Marshalltown) second at 14:41.

Kansas

Community America Invitational @ Baldwin Golf Course, Baldwin

HL#5 Shawnee Mission Northwest put runners into the first four places and won the boy's team title over a strong field with 21 points at the CommunityAmerica Invitational at Baldwin. The normally quick Baldwin course this year saw soggy grounds and water hamper runners. Tucker Weems led the Orange Army parade, winning in 15:58 for 5k, with Bret Imrgrund (16:25), Josh Weems (16:56), Rick Stahl (17;10) and Jeff Muckenthaler (Aquinas, Overland Park) stoppin the sweep with a fifth place finish in 17:12. Shawnee Mission South was second with 56 points and Aquinas third with 76.
Northwest also won the girl's title with 61 points, with Aquinas and Baldwin tieing for second with 71 points. Baldwin was without #1 runner Heather Garcia, recovering from a broken hand. Stephanie King of Marmaton Valley won the girls 4k, zipping a 15:00, with Alysha Valencia (Free State, Lawrence) second at 15:27. Kyra Kilwein (Free State 15:47), Kristen Gillespie (Shawnee Mission South 15:56) and Kelsey Verhaeghe (Baldwin 15:58) rounded out the top five.

Council Grove Invitational 10/01/05

Annie Martin ran an 11:58 two mile to win the Council Grove Invitational, and led Riley County (top ranked in 3A) to a 39 point total and the girl's team title. Olpe was second with 89 and Northern Heights third with 94. Butler (Bennington 12:47) and Zeller (Olpe 12:57) were second and third with Lee (Northern Heights 12:59) and Mahaffey (Blue Valley-Randolph 13:09) completing the top five.

Northern Heights won the boy's title with 41 points, with Council Grove second (65) and Independent, Wichita third with 90, edging Riley County's 91. Meahl(Northern Heights) ran 17:04 for 5k, edging defending 1A state champ David Butler (Blue Valley-Randolph 17:07). Northern Heights also went 3-5 with Neidfeldt (17:18) and Bitler (17:36) with Blignaut (Independent, Wichita) running 17:23 in fourth.

Newton Invitational 10/01/05

Newton senior Ben Histad completed his fourth Newton Invitational the same way as the other three he's run-- In first. Histad ran 16:26 for 5k to win, with El Dorado's Jake Orndorff second at 16:37. Newton won with 53 points with El Dorado second with 64. Lauren Nightengale (El Dorado) won the girl's two mile with a time of 11:34, with BreAnna Briggs (Wamego) second at 11:41. Buhler scored 49 to edge El Dorado's 51 for the team title.

Hays Invitational 9/29/05 @ Ft. Hays State University, Hays

Boys:
Defending 3A state champ Cole Ginther (TMP-Marian, Hays) zipped a 16:27 5k to win the 4A-1A division, and Sloane Kern (Great Bend) ran 16:36 to win the 5A-6A division. Abilene powered to a 20 point total to win the 4A-1A title, with DeSoto (57) second and TMP-Marian third (95). Junction City scored 38 to win the 5A-6A title with Great Bend (56) second and Dodge City (70) third.

Girls: Tamera Smith of Junction City blazed an 11:38 two mile to win the overall title, and Hays (51) won the 5A-6A team division with Great Bend (72) second and Liberal (85) third. DeSoto (36) edged Colby (46) for the 4A-1A title with Ulysses (96) third.

Pittsburg Invitational @ Four Oaks Golf Course, Pittsburg 9/29/05

Lane Boyer of Neodesha impressed last year with his 9:22 3200 as a sophomore, and again impressed at Rimrock Farm two weeks ago by running in the lead to his legs went out from under him. But his 14:55 over three miles on Four Oaks Golf Course wowed even those who've seen Boyer run. Boyer defeated a creditable run by runner-up Lane Hall (15:59) by over a minute. Girard won the boy's title with 41 points, with Nevada MO second with 114. In the girl's race Anna Yost (Girard) zipped an 11;09 two mile to win, with Heather Williams (Ft. Scott) second at 11:18. Pittsburg won the girl's team title with 55 points, with Girard (79) edging Ft. Scott (86) for second.

Bishop Miege Invitational 10/1/05 @ Miege HS, Roeland Park

In a match-up of state-ranked KS schools, Blue Valley (65) edged Olathe East (66) for the girl's team title, with St. Teresa's, Kansas City MO (91) edging Olathe South (98) for third. Keli Russell (Olathe South 11:58) broke away in the uphill 400 from second place Amanda Miller (Olathe East 12:09) and Devin Weigers (Blue Valley 12:11) to score the win, with Emily Gilbreath (Mill Valley, Shawnee 12:38) and Devin Freeman (Blue Valley 12:44) rounding out the top five.

In the boy's race, Olathe East packed five runners in the top seventeen to win the team title with 53 points, with Olathe South second (79) and Bishop Miege (93) third. Daniel Everhart (Turner, Kansas City) powered to a 16:33 5k to win, with Graham Laird (Pembroke Hill, Kansas City MO) second at 16:43 and Amr Abualnadi (Blue Valley) third at 16:54. Defending champ Mike Partridge (Olathe South 17:01) and Josh Meler (Olathe East 17:07) rounded out the top five.
Fifteen teams competed.

Minnesota

Northfield Invitational 9/29/05

Host Northfield won the boy's team title with 70 points, with Owatonna second (93) and Faribault (99) edging Mayo, Rochester for third in the 13 team field. Sam Schmidt (Faribault) won the race in 16:30 for 5k. Prior Lake won the girl's title with 43 points, with Waseca second with 65, edging Owatonna on the pusher. Sarah Heuer led Prior Lake to the title, winning in 15:07 for 4k.

Chippewa Falls invitational WI flash report 9/29/05

Elliot Heath, ranked #1 individually in the latest MN state coaches poll, led his Winona team to the team title at the Chippewa Falls WI Invite. Heath ran 15:40 over 5k to win with Menomonie's Sean Olson second at 15:56. Winona scored 67 to edge Hudson WI (74) for the boy's title.

Paynesville Invitational 9/29/05


Cathedral, St. Paul swept the boy's and girl's team titles at the Paynesville Invitational. Cathedral dominated the boy's race with 32 points, with Annandale second with 62 and Sauk Rapids third with 100. Ryan Noack led Cathedral winning in 17:15 over 5k, with Mike McConnell of Sauk Rapids 17:33 and Doug Lasken (Long Prairie-Gray Eagle) third at 17:35.
Beth Taci led the Cathedral ladies, winning the individual title with a fast 4k of 15:15, over ninety seconds ahead of second place. Cathedral scored 85 to defeat second place Litchfield (123) with Annandale third (127). Thirteen teams competed.

YME Invite 9/29/05

Nikki Swenson of Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd blazed a 14:35 4k to win the YME Invite, and lead her team to a 42 to 55 win over Montevideo, with Yellow Medicine East third with 61. Jacob Henderson of Yellow Medicine East ran 17:03 for 5k to edge Austin Hinrichs (MACCRAY 17:05) for the boy's title. Montevideo won the boy's team race with 46 points, with LQP/DB second with 55 and Renville County West third with 66.

Fergus Falls Invitational 9/29/05

Bemidji (79) edged Alexandria (81) for the boy's team title with Sartell (94) third in the 13 team meet. Shane Wyborny of Detroit Lakes ran 16:52 for 5k to win. Sartell (50) won the girl's team title with Fergus Falls (56) a close second and Alexandria (100) third. Hanna Grinaker (Detroit Lakes) ran 15:05 to win over 4k with Liz Vold (15:33) and Heidi Peterson (15:46) leading Sartell in second and third.

Swain Invitational @ Enger Park GC , Duluth 10/01/05 FLASH RESULT WITH DETAILS TO COME

About 2500 runners and 180 teams ran in the 55th annual Swain Invitational in Duluth with Claire Richardson (Blake School, Minneapolis) taking the headlines, winning her third straight Class A title in 15:19 for 4k. Only two other runners in the history of the meet have matched her accomplishment of three straight. Brea Tinney (Osceola 15:28) and Morgan Lynn (Adrian 15:38) were second and third. Margaret Chute (Blake) and Katie Bonn rounded out the top five.
Adrian dominated the girls team race with 43 points, followed by Perham (86), Staples-Motley (134), Blake (178) and Ely (191) in the twenty school plus field. Moundsview won the AA girl's race with 104 points and four of the top twenty-two scorers. Grand Rapids was second with 121, edging Duluth East (125). Mayo, Rochester (167) and Totino-Grace (179) rounded out the top five. Anna Garner (Mayo, Rochester) won a tight individual race in 16:02, with the Cloquet duo of Lisa Linden (16:05) and Becca Sorenson (16:08) close behind. Hillary Noska (Mayo, Rochester 16:12) was fourth and Bethany Peirson (Irondale 16:14) fifth.

In the boy's Class A race, Daniel Murray (Blue Earth Area) pulled away to a 16:50 5k win, with the Warroad duo of Moses Heppner (17;07) and older brother Micah Heppner (17:09) in second and third. Dan Conley (Carlton Wrenshall 17:14) and Eric Thies (Sibley East-Arlington 17:21) completing the top five. Warroad cruised to the team title with 79 points, with Perham second (126) and Blue Earth Area third (175). Adrian (225) and Northwestern (232) were fourth and fifth.
In the Class AA boys race Mounds View (81) and Moorhead (83) waged a thrilling team battle, with Wayzata (104) a close third. Forest LAke (182) and St. Thomas Academy (245) completed the top five. Dan Greeno of St. Michael/Albertville handily won the 5k race in 16:37. Nate Simons (Minneapolis Southwest ran 17:07 for second, just ahead of the pack of Tyler Iverson (Moorhead 17:09), Reed Iehto (Cook County 17:11) and George Williams (St. Thomas Academy 17:12).



Missouri

Grandview Invitational 9/29/05 @ Longview Lake

Jefferson City edged Lee's Summit North 52-53 to take the boy's team title, with Oak Park, Kansas City third with 101. Jacob Boone (Lee's Summit North) ran a quick 15:57 for 5k to win the individual title a week after taking the KC Metro title. Geoff Hughes (Raytown South) was second at 16;05, with David Hosman (William Chrisman, Independence 16:08), Nick Heberle (Jeff City 16:15) and Stephen Ardoin (Lee's Summit 16:37) rounding out the top five.

In the girl's race Elizabeth Keaveney of St. Teresa's Academy, Kansas City, ran 19:04 for 5k to hold off Jefferson City's Asenath Naman (19:06) for the individual title. Lauren Renfrow (Blue Springs) was third at 19:11. Morgan Hafner (Blue Springs) ran 19:25 for fourth and Madeline Keenan (Jefferson City 19:40) was fifth. Jefferson City scored 35 to knock off Blue Springs (43) in a close race, with St. Teresa's (149) third in the sixteen team field.

Parkway West Invitational @ McNair Park, St. Louis 10/01/05

Notre Dame de Sion made the trip across the state from Kansas City a worthwhile one, scoring 69 points to win the girl's division at the Parkway West Invitational. Kirkwood was second with 115 points, with Rock Bridge, Columbia winning a close race for third with 121 points, edging Summit (127) and Parkway West (131). Emily Eaker (Lafayette, St. Louis) zipped a 19:14 5k to win over a strong field, with Tori Mirfusihi leading Sion in second at 19:25. Mary Goldkamp (McCluer North 19:36), Monica Noble (Francis Howell North, St. Charles 19:36) and Anna Florzak (Notre Dame de Sion 19:54) rounded out the top five.

Blue Springs also made a worthwhile trip down I-70 from the Kansas City area, winning the boy's team title with 45 points. Francis Howell North was second with 87 and Parkway West third with 148, edging Cape Girardeau Central's 157. Phillip King of Rock Bridge won the individual title at 16;11 for 5k, with Eric Fernandez (Parkway West) a close second at 16:15 and Josh Rollins of Blue Springs third at 16:20. Andrew Tobben (Borgia) was fourth at 16:36 and Tommy McNab (Francis Howell North) fifth at 16:41.

Hazlewood East Invitational 10/01/05

Ft. Zumwalt South clobbered the field, sweeping the first seven places to score 15 and win the boy's team title. Granite City IL was second with 61 and Hazlewood Central third with 101. Nathan Young led South, running 15:33 for 5k to win, as five FZS runners broke 16:00. Ft. Zumwalt South's girl's scored 31 points to defeat cross-town rival Ft. Zumwalt North (62) with Hazelwood Central (73) third. T. Youngstrom (Ft. Zumwalt North) ran 19:34 for an easy 5k win.

Nebraska

Columbus Invitational, Columbus 9/30/05

Fremont's boys team took their second title of the week, winning the Columbus Invite after taking the Nebraska-Kearney meet Monday. Fremont scored 41 points to win, with Kearney second with 59 and Norfolk third (68). Sufian Komo (Norfolk) won the 5k race with a time of 15:53 with Kearney's Kevin Stubb's second 16:01. Fremont packed their runnners in 5-7-8-9-12 to win with a 34 second split. Host Columbus won the girls team title with 41 points, with Fremont second (51) and Kearney third 70. Emily Romesser of Bellevue West ran 16:05 over 5k to win, with Jessica Schmidt (Norfolk) second at 16:27 and Grace Larsen (Kearney) third at 16:35. Columbus packed four runners in the top ten to win.

Lincoln Public Schools Championships @ Pioneer Park, Lincoln 10/1/05

North Star, Lincoln won the boy's team title, while Lincoln East won the girls team title. North Star used tight pack running to win 29-41 over Lincoln East, with Eric Noel leading North Star by winning the individual title at 16:24 for 5k. In the girls individual race, Dani Virts (Lincoln Southwest) ran 15:36 to win, with Michelle Fluitt (Lincoln East) second at 16:07 and two time champion Ashley Schnell (North Star) third.



North Dakota

Grand Forks Invitational 9/29/05

Jamestown dominated both the boys and girls races at the Grand Forks Invitational. Jamestown won the boys division with 31 points, with a spirited fight for second going to Fargo South 117, with a tight pack of Valley City 119, Fargo North 120, and Grand Forks Central 120. Sam Larson led Jamestown, winning the 5k in 16:20, with Jamestown freshman duo of Justin (16:55) and Jordan (17:00) going second and third. Colin Parish (Grand Forks Central 17:05), and Joel Gortmaker (Valley Center 17:11).

Jamestown also won the girls title with 29 points, with Fargo South second with 45 and Grand Forks Central with 84. Katie Conlon won the 4k race in 15:11, edging the Fargo South duo of Laura Roesler (15:15) and Molly Clark (Fargo South 15:17) with Madley Hornung (Jamestown 15:31) and Dani Thompson (Grand Falls Central 15:34) fourth and fifth.
