Cold and wind hold down marks. Eric Thomas' (Thomas More Prep-Marian, Hays) doubles 58-8 SP and 182-0 DT.

Here are some meets from Thursday night. Across eastern Kansas, bitter cold and winds really held down marks.
Big mark was at the Alex Francis Relays at Ft. Hays State, Hays.

Hutchinson won the boys title with 143 points over Hays (116) and Junction City (119) at the Alex Francis Relays, named for the Ft. Hays track and cross country coach her served from the mid-1940's till his retirement in the early 1980's.
Eric Thomas (Thomas More Prep-Marian, Hays) had big early season wins in the shot (58-8) and disc (182-0) to highlight the action. Hutchinson's Jacob Fuller took a 21-3/ 46-6 LJ/ TJ triumph, and fellow Salt Hawk Kelly Roberts won the HJ at 6-2. Junction City's Ramone Lewis took a 22.86/ 50.93 long sprint double. John McDonald (Thomas More Prep) won the vault at 13-6.
Hays won the girls title with 165 points, with Hutchinson second (107) and Junction City third (96).
Lexi Beaudet (Hutchinson) won the long jump (16-6 over Christie Coleman, Junction City 16-3). Beaudet also won the 200 (26.34) and 400 (61.66). Team mate Lauren Bonds won the 800 (2:25.12) and 1600 (5:27.15). Kaitlyn Coen (Hays) ran 12:17.14 to win the 3200 over a good field.
Junction City turned a fine early season 51.41 to win the 4 x 100, and Great Bend's Kaitlyn Wagle took a 38-8, 127-8 shot/ disc double.

Emporia State Relays @ ESU, Emporia.
Cold, wet weather held down marks in Emporia. Ruskin (Kansas City MO) won the 6A-5A girls title with 143 points, with Emporia second with 117, Olathe East (97) third. Emporia won the 5A - 6A boys title with 137 points, edging Olathe North (132) with Olathe East again third with 98.
Randy Shepard (Olathe North) won the 100 in 10.68, fine running in the cold conditions, after a 10.89 heat and anchored 43.31 4 x 100 and 1:33.36 4 x 200 winners. Emporia's boys won both the boys and girls 4 x 800 's (8:26.07/10:51.05) and Distance Medley Relays (13:34.02/ 11:08.91). Skyler Delmott (Emporia 10:00.38) and Mandy Puhak (Olathe East 12:43.3) won the 3200's by wide margins.
Other top marks included Craig Ross (Olathe South) winning the javelin in 5A-6A at 171-2 with Harry Ruzicka (Independent, Wichita) winning 4A-1A at 165-10. Sakina Henderson (Olathe East) won the girls LJ at 5-2, with Austin Turner (Olathe North) going 6-2 to win the boys. A good long jump field saw Janet Simpson (Olathe North) go 16-11.25 to win with Artehsia Williams (Ruskin) second at 16-2. Tony Bryant (Olathe South) jumped 22-5.5 to win the boys long jumps, with three others over 21 feet. Krishna Lee (O' Hara, Kansas City MO) won the shot at 40-3, and Toniece Williams (Ruskin) took the girl's hurdles in 15.89 and 49.69.

Nickerson Inviational @ Nickerson HS, Nickerson KS
Buhler won the boys title with 120 points, with Pratt (91) and Andale (78) second and third in the nine team meet. Andale won the girls title with 138 points, edging second place Buhler by five, with Pratt third with 90.
Steph Beardslee (Buhler) had top jump marks with a 16-5/ 34-10.5 jump double, winning by large margins.


Ottawa Relays, Friday 4/1/05 @ Ottawa HS
Caleb Blakesley, a senior at host Ottawa, won the shot at 59-10 and the disc at 137-6 (unfoavorable winds) to highlight the Ottawa Relays. Jack Sachse, also from Ottawa, won the 800 by a wide margin in 2:03.0. Sachse ran 1:57 last year, giving a measure of Friday's winds. Scott (no first name or grade reported) from Mill Valley, Shawnee, won the high jump at 6-2. Ottawa junior Aaron Douglass won the highs by a second at 15.51.
Free State, Lawrence soph Alysha Valencia had top marks on the girls side with a 5:24.0/ 11:33.0 1600/3200 double, plus legs on the 2nd place 4 x 8 and third place 4 x 400. Laura Gibson (Kearney MO) won the long jump at 16-1.
Team wise Free State won the boys competition with 156 points, with Ottawa second at 124. On the girls side Mill Valley won with 168 points, with Free State second with 142.

Baldwin Relays 4/1/05 preliminary report
DeSoto's Casey Johnson ran a 1:56.8 to win the 800 by a wide margin. More coming later.
