Boys

1. York, IL - Another year, another state title for the legendary coach Joe Newton.  Mr. Newton's team this year won York's 25th state title.  25 state titles!  A quarter of a century of state titles!  Simply amazing.  Not only did York win, but they dominated.  The Dukes scored a mere 49 points, outdistancing second place Palatine by 83 points, and placed six runners in the top 26 individually.  They had five all-state runners!  This was one of the best performances in state history, especially since they had their top six runners under 15 minutes for the three mile course.  Congratulations York on another impressive state title.
Next Meet: Regular Season Complete.

5. Matt Dettman - 14:29

2. Warren Central, IN - Regular Season Complete.  Won the Indiana State Championship on 10/29. Onward to NTN!

3. Glenbard South, IL - Glenbard South entered the state meet riding a wave of momentum, but that wave crashed hard at the Illinois State CC Championship.  South had run fantastic all season long and kept with their usual pack-it-up tactics at state, but their pack simply was not high enough in the standing to warrant them even a top three (trophy) finish.  GBS finished a disappointing sixth, scoring 208 points and finishing well behind the top few teams.  Sophomore sensation Brian Billie was their sixth runner, which was not ideal, although Bruce MacTaggart had an excellent run to finish in the top ten.  South had a great 1-5 split of 59 seconds, a split which was actually reduced from past weeks, although it was too large of a split on Saturday.  Youth served notice for this team, as five of their top seven return next year.
Next Race: Regular Season Complete.

5. Valparaiso, IN - Regular Season Complete.  Took second at the Indiana State Meet on 10/29.

6. LaSalle, OH - LaSalle had one interesting year and Saturday capped it off for them in grand fashion as they went out on top 74-140 to capture the Ohio State Championshp.  A wonderful 50 second split from 1-5 helped pace the squad, as they placed all their scorers in the top 32 of the meet in the team scoring.  Led by juniors Kyle Lang and Jake Neuskabel, LaSalle ran a smart and tactical team race, which led to some very fast results.  Congratulations LaSalle on winning the '05 Ohio State Championships!

8. Dexter, MI - Amazing times up front from top ten finishers Dan Jackson and Bobby Aprill, led MW #8 Dexter to the state title in the DII race at the Michigan State CC Championships.  Dexter outscored their next nearest opponent 95-130 to take home the team title.  Averaging 16:04 for their top five over the 5k course, Dexter ran their best race of the season when it mattered most.  The best part for this team is that their top three, which is one of the best top threes around, all return next year, as they are a junior, sophomore and freshman.  Congratulations Dexter on winning the 2005 Michigan State Championship.

9. St. Charles North, IL - St. Charles North ran a fantastic Illinois State Meet race and finished a strong third, scoring 175 points, losing only to MW #1 York and previously ranked Palatine, and proving that they have one of the better packs in the Midwest.  Led by frontrunner Matt DeSilva and Mike McDonnell, SCN had a fantastic split of 52 seconds for their top five runners, and just over a minute (1:03) split from 1-7.  This team truly was a team all season long, racing and practicing every single day as a group, rather than a collection of individuals.  They were the ideal of team and it paid off at the Illinois State Meet with a trophy.

Girls

1. Clarkston, MI - Even with an ill front-runner and an injured fourth, Clarkston won the Michigan DI State Championship yet again.  This time they beat MW #9 Okemos, who gave Clarkston a true run for their money.  Using the fantastic 4, 6 scoring combination up front with the Morgan sisters, Clarkston was then able to pack it up somewhat, as their 3-5 runners had a split time of 36 seconds.  Their third runner, Lyndsay Smith ran an excellent race, finishing 23rd in the team scoring and running a very good time of 18:40.  While Clarkston won, they looked a little vunerable as well, with both Okemos and Rockford less than twenty points behind them.  Congratulations Clarkston on a very fine season, going undefeated and winning the '05 Michigan State Championship.
Next Race: Regular Season Complete.
4. Jenny Morgan - 17:54
6. Stephanie Morgan - 17:56

2. Westfield, IN - Regular Season Complete.  Won the Indiana State Championship on 10/29.

3. Waukesha West, WI - Regular Season Complete.  Won the Wisconsin State Championship on 10/29.

4. Palatine, IL - Despite having a very low point score up front from leader Amy Laskowske, Palatine could not pull their usual pack together for the Illinois State Meet.  Palatine placed a distant third to race champion Naperville North, as Palatine scored 216 points to North's 105.  The Pirates had a nice 2-4 split of 31 seconds, but the drop between their 4-5 runners hurt them badly.  Palatine ran undefeated all year until state, and just didn't hit their full stride like Naperville North.
Next Race: Regular Season Complete.
4. Amy Laskowske - 17:28
23. Michelle Brunk - 18:07
43. Kaitlin Millin - 18:33

5. Valparaiso, IN - Regular Season Complete.  Took second at the Indiana State Meet on 10/29.

6. Carmel, IN - Regular Season Complete.  Took third at the Indiana State Meet on 10/29.

7. Massillon Jackson, OH - Despite having the best 1-2 combination at their state meet on Saturday, Jackson simply did not have enough to overcome the perfect race that was run by MW #8 Bowling Green.  Mass. Jackson finished a strong second, scoring 102 points and losing to team champion BG by 24 points.  Emily Pritt ran an outstanding race, finishing second in the team scoring in 18:33, while heralded teammate Hallie Busta ran to seventh place in 19:05.  However, their split of nearly one and a half minutes was too big.  Their gap of 55 seconds between their second and third is what really barried them against BG, who had a much better #3.  Mass. Jackson still had a very successful season and should be very proud.
Next Race: Regular Season Complete.

69. Rachel Reed - 20:37
72. Molly McDonough - 20:41

8. Bowling Green, OH - At the start of the season, Bowling Green seemingly was faltering, losing a couple meets.  This was the first time they had lost in two years and they looked like they may not have been the same team that got invited to Portland for NTN the year before.  However, as the season progressed BG started to pick up steam and rolled into the state meet with a huge amount of momentum.  BG ran a flawless race, and came away with the Ohio State Championship, beating MW #7 Massillon Jackson 78 - 102.  The team placed three of their runners in the top 15, as Christy Titus (4th), Barbara Powers (9th) and Shannon Titus (15th) ran as a great top three.  However, where BG really won was their 4-5 runners.  Both of their girls stepped up big running right around twenty minutes for the 5k course and closing well finishing in the top twenty-six.  Although their 1-5 split was 1:17, BG still had what it took to become state champions.  Their experience paid off, with their third state championship in a row.  Great job Bowling Green on a fine season and running your best when it counted most!
Next Race: Regular Season Complete.

9. Okemos, MI - Okemos headed into their state meet as the clear underdogs.  MW #1 Clarkston were people's pick to win state all season long, but Okemos had other plans.  Running as a fantastic top four, Okemos' nearly beat Clarkston, as they lost 123 - 138 to the reigning state champions.  Danielle Dakroub led the way for her team once again, this time placing tenth in the team scoring and running a time of 18:11.  While this was not her perfect race of the season, it was a great start to lead the team.  Allie Pugh ran well also, placing in the top 15.  The big drop came between their 4-5 runners.  A gap of 39 seconds was simply too big to overcome.  However, Okemos capped a great season with a state trophy and should be very proud of their accomplishments.
