A heat wave fell over the Midwest on Friday and Saturday, as many of the top teams in the region competed in their first or second meets of the season.

Girls

 

1. Clarkston, MI – They did not compete this week.

 

2. Bowling Green, OH – Lost for the second time in a week to Massillon Jackson, this time by one point, 95-96 at the Tiffin Invitational (5k).

3. Waukesha West, WI – They did not compete in an invitational this past weekend.

 

4. Naperville North, IL – They easily outdistanced second place Hinsdale Central 44-91 to win the Lake Park Invitational (2.98m, flat). North placed four runners in the top twelve, while running without their #2/3 girl Bekah Regenfuss. Top girl Shannon Phelan demolished a very strong field, including ’04 state champ Amber Stack (So., Wheeling), by over twenty seconds, running . Freshman Michelle Stratton finished second for North, showing that she will contend for a top five finish at state.

5. Valparaiso, IN – They did not compete in an invitational this past weekend.

 

6. Mason, OH – Mason beat Ohio rival Loveland 44-67 to win their own invitational, the Mason Invitational (3m). Angela Bizzarri led the charge for her squad, as she easily outdistanced the entire field, winning in an impressive time of 18:01.

7. Cincinnati (Colerain), OH – Colerain finished fourth at the Carmel Cross Country Classic (4k, harder course). They lost to MW #9 Carmel and unranked Indiana teams in Columbus North and Lawrence North. Colerain’s overall total time was 1:21:27.

8. Indianapolis (Cathedral), IN – They did not compete this week.

 

9. Carmel, IN – Carmel, led by two freshmen in their top three and three in their top six, won the flighted and time based Carmel Cross Country Classic (4k, harder course) in 1:19:21. Carmel beat MW #7 Cincinnati Colerain, who took fourth overall. Carmel looked dominant in their performance.

10. Rockford, MI – Rockford easily won the Bret Clements Memorial (5k), scoring 47 points in the Class I race. The Rams were led by dominant performances by their top three runners, who all finished in the top eight and ran under 19:15. Sophomore sensation Katie Haines led the charge with a second place finish, finishing in 18:35.3. Rockford also showed great depth in this invitational.
