US #1 York looked great once again at Peoria, as they placed 1-3 and had a sophomore move into their top four, which was a great surprise for them.  MW #2 Milford sat out their varsity for the second weekend in a row, as they prepare for the tough meets ahead in Michigan.  MW #3 Hamilton Southeastern did not dominate like they have in some meets this season, but still won the Marion County Invitational by 13 points over a handful of top Indiana squads.  MW #4 Palatine ran very well at the Crete Monee Pow Wow, in which they scored well in the flights (it was a flighted meet).

On the girls side, MW #1 Clarkston sat out from racing, while MW #2 Bowling Green continued to dominate.  Their depth has been amazing and they are seemingly getting stonger.  This team could be an incredible force at state in a few weeks time.  MW #3 Naperville North destroyed the 2-4 ranked team in Illinois, as they scored a mere nine points in the flighted field at Wheaton North.  Naperville North is easily the best team in Illinois this season.  MW #4 Waukesha West proved their worth, as they took apart MW #9 Arrowhead, as they put their top nine runners in the top 14 spots. All the top four girls teams in the Midwest are very tough and deep, which will make them threats to any team if they are challenged from here on out.

Top 10 Scoreboard

1.York IL They easily won the Peoria Cross Country Invitational (3 miles and flat, state meet course), scoring a mere 25 points.  York continued to roll against some of Illinois best, as they swept the first three spots and put their top seven in the top twenty-two spots.  York's trio up front seems unbeatable so far this season, as senior Sean McNamara and juniors Eric Dettman and Matt Dettman lead the Duke charge.  The big surprise in this meet was sophomore Nick Kuczwara, who had not been in York's top seven this year, but stepped up huge and was their fourth man this week.

Preview

This is a big weekend in the Midwest . Last weekend was calm, meaning not a lot of the top teams were squaring off against one another, and even top teams in states were not matching up. This weekend however will be a little different. Many states top teams go head to head, which should make or break a few of the teams ranked in the top ten on both sides.

US #1 MW #1 York IL boys will get a chance to showcase their skills on the Illinois state meet course this weekend, while US #23 MW #5 Madison West WI is the sole representative out of the ranked Midwest teams to be heading out to the Great American Cross Country Festival. Meanwhile, MW #7 Lawrence North IN will get the chance to once again prove their worth in Indiana, as they toe the line with a handful of top ranked schools in Indiana, while MW #9 St. Xavier OH (ranked #1 in Ohio) faces off against Ohio #2 St. Ignatius at the St. Xavier Invitational.

On the girls side, US #3 MW #1 Clarkston MI is taking the weekend off according to their schedule, as the prepare for the big meets that lay ahead for them the rest of the year. US #25 MW #3 Naperville North IL takes to the course, as they face off against many of Illinois best at the Wheaton Invitational in a flighted meet.

Perhaps the biggest show down of the weekend is taking place in Wisconsin , where MW #4 Waukesha West goes against MW #9 Arrowhead at the Racine Case Eagle Invitational. Both of these teams having been running great all season long, and have been stationary in the rankings as of late. This meet will prove who the best team in Wisconsin is at this point in the season.

The races in the Midwest are starting to pick up, as teams start getting a little more excited about what the rest of their season holds for them with the bigger and more important meets ahead.

Boys

1. York IL The Dukes will be heading south, as they travel to Peoria , and will run on the state meet course for the first time this season. Last weekend York showed their dominance in Illinois and the nation, as they beat a stellar field at the Palatine Invitational. This weekend, they should have an easier time, and will get to practice their race tactics on the state course.

2. Milford MI They will be competing at the Hanson's Invitational. Last weekend they sat out their top runners, in preparation of the rest of the season. This weekend, they should showcase a little more of what they are all about, as they look to continue their dominance over Michigan and the Midwest .

3. Hamilton Southeastern IN They will be competing at their local county championships this weekend (the HCC Championships) before they take a couple weeks off to prepare for the state series and the Indiana state meet.

4. Palatine IL Last weekend Palatine lost to US #1 York . This weekend, Palatine returns to the favorite role, as they will compete in the Crete-Monee Pow-Wow. The Pow-Wow is a flighted meet, which will feature all the top runners squaring off in one race, all the number two runners in one race, and so on. There will be many Illinois top 15 teams there, which should make it an exciting event.

5. Madison West WI They will be heading out east to compete in the Great American Cross Country Festival. They will be taking on many top ranked teams in the land. Madison West has been healthy all season and has been training hard. They have consistently been in the Midwest top ten all season long and should continue to remain there assuming they run well this weekend. They are the only ranked boys' team from the Midwest to be competing in the Nike Race of Champions.

6. Dexter MI Dexter will be traveling to the Chelsea Invitational, which should provide a good warm-up for the following weekend's big competition in the Portage Invitational (featuring many top teams in the Midwest ). Dexter has bounced around in the polls the past few weeks, but should maintain a high ranking if they can win their invite this weekend and then have a strong showing at Portage next weekend.

7. Lawrence North IN They will be in competition at the Marion County Invitational, where they will have the opportunity to square up against five other top 25 teams in Indiana according to IndianaRunner.com. Lawrence North has been a team on the rise the past few weekends, beating some great competition in a few meets. This weekend they will once again be put to the test, as they face off against the likes of Warren Central, who is ranked #6 in Indiana at the moment.

8. Centerville OH They will be at the Fairmont Invitational, where they will be running their Varsity B squad, which consists of their 8-14 runners. Their top runners will be sitting out of competition and training hard this coming weekend for their big meet on October 6 th , called the Wayne Invitational.

9. St. Xavier OH They will be hosting their own invitational on Saturday called the St. Xavier Invitational. They will get a chance to go head to head with the number two ranked team in the state in St. Ignatius ( Cleveland ). St. Xavier is currently ranked number one in the state, so it will be an intense battle between the two teams, and will serve as bragging rights until the state meet.

10. Huron Ann Arbor MI They will be in competition at the Haslett Invitational. Last weekend they took off to rest and gear up for the big meets ahead later this season, so they should be primed and ready to run fast this weekend.

Girls

1. Clarkston MI They do not compete this weekend.

2. Bowling Green OH They will be competing in the Eagle Invitational in Pearson Park . Most of the top teams in northwest Ohio will be competing there, which should provide Bowling Green with some competition. Last year, BG decimated the field placing four in the top ten and scoring only 45 points. This year should be no different as they have some incredible depth to work with.

3. Naperville North IL They will be competing at the Wheaton North Invitational. This meet is perhaps the best girls meet in the state of Illinois prior to the state meet. It is a meet consisting of flights, which means all the number seven runners will face each other in one race, then all the number six runners on teams will face off, and it will carry on like that until all the number one runners compete against one another. North has been untouchable in Illinois so far this season. This meet will be their biggest test yet.

4. Waukesha West WI They will be competing at the Racine Case Eagle Invitational on Saturday. They will go head to head with MW #9 Arrowhead WI for the first time this season. This invite, held at the tough University of Wisconsin-Parkside course, will showcase which girls' team is the best in the state, as both teams have solid front runners and depth.

5. Indianapolis Cathedral IN They do not compete this weekend.

6. St. Ursula Academy OH They will be heading down to Kentucky to run in the Franklin County Invitational, which will be held on the Kentucky state course at the Kentucky Horse Park . Over sixty teams and 1500 individuals will be competing in this one, so it is quite the invitational.

7. Cincinnati Colerain OH Last weekend they ran very well, despite missing one of their top two runners. This weekend, they will once again by without a fully healthy top seven, but should be raring to go, as they head to the Fairmont Invitational.

8. Goodrich MI Goodrich has been proving their worth the past few weekends, as they have competed and beaten many of the top teams in Michigan, which has proved to be a very good state for girls distance running the past few years. This weekend, they will travel to the Linden Invitational, where they will get another chance to showcase their talent and prove that maybe they deserve a higher ranking than eighth.

9. Arrowhead WI They will be heading to the Racine Case Eagle Invitational, where they will get a chance to square off against MW #4 Waukesha West. This could be the big turning point in momentum for either team, as both teams will be raring to go and try to prove they are the better team in Wisconsin and deserve a high rankings in both the Midwest and nationally. This will be the key weekend meet for the Midwest girls in terms of top ten teams matching up head to head.

10. Northridge IN After taking a week off from the rankings, Northridge proved that they once again are worthy of a top ten Midwest ranking, as they beat Valparaiso last weekend at the enormous Culver Invitational. This weekend, they will be heading to the New Haven Invitational, where they should win, but will be challenged by a few ranked girls' teams in Indiana .
