This is a big weekend in the Midwest, where a lot of movement could happen, especially on the boys side.

The biggest boys' meet is in Indiana.  The Franklin Central Semi-State race is perhaps the best in state competition in theMidwest this season.  Eight of the top ten ranked teams in Indiana compete in this semi-state, and only five get to make it to state.  MW #5 Lawrence North IN and MW #8 Hamilton Southeastern IN will both be competing there, as will previously ranked Carmel H.S.  Whoever wins this one is going to have some big momentum heading to state next weekend. US #2 MW #1 York IL will be running in their regional race, which will also contain the #3 and #4 teams in Illinois.  #3 Glenbard South and #4 Downers Grove North should both provide challenges to York.

On the girls side the Southwest District in Ohio is the place to be. MW #8 St. Ursula OH and MW #10 Mason OH will go head to head.  Along with those two powerhouse teams, throw in Cincinnati Colerain, who was ranked in the top ten previously and is finally at full strength again.  This race should be great up front and through the race pack. MW #1 Clarkston MI has their conference meet on Friday, while MW #2 Bowling Green OH has their district meet on Saturday.  Both should breeze through the competition.  MW #3 Naperville North IL rolls into the Lockport Twp. regional with some huge momentum after winning conference with a less than perfect race, but a dominating performance nonetheless against the #3 team in Illinois Wheaton North.  They will face four other state ranked girls squads at their regional, which should make it a very enjoyable meet to watch.

The most anticipated meet in the Midwest will take place next Monday at the KVC Championships.  On Tuesday MW #7 Novi MI beat MW #2 Milford MI in a dual meet.  They will get another chance to go at it on Monday at their conference championships, which will also host a few other top Michigan teams, including Pinckney

Boys

1. York IL – They will be competing in the Bensenville (Fenton) regional, where they will have a chance to square off against two Illinois top five ranked teams (IL #3 Glenbard South and IL #4 Downers Grove North).  York’s awesome trio up front could very well be broken up, as there a handful of very talented runners in the race.

2. Milford MI – Milford lost to MW #7 Novi MI in a dual meet this week, and will be seeking some revenge on Monday as they go head to head with Novi once again.  Milford will be heading to their conference championships, the KVC Championships.  Along withNovi, a few other top Michigan teams will be competing, including Pinckney.

3. Palatine IL – They compete at the Rolling Meadows regional, where they should have no problem winning the race.  Palatine has been running very well the last few weeks as they prepare for the state meet which is only two weeks away after this weekend.

4. Madison West WI –
They will be hosting their own sectional, as they look to make the state field next weekend.  Madison West has put in a fine season of training and racing, but the biggest meets are still to come.

5. Lawrence North IN – The Franklin Central semi-state is the top meet in the Midwest hands down this weekend.  In Indiana the top five teams make it out of semi-state to the state meet.  In this semi-state eight of the top ten ranked teams in the state preside, as well as twelve out of the top twenty.  This meet is going to be a barn burner.  Lawrence North has been running very well all season long, but they will be challenged like never before.  Other teams like MW #8 Hamilton Southeastern, previously ranked Carmel, Franklin Central,Southport, Warren Central and Columbus North will all be trying to earn themselves a trip to state.

6. Dexter MI – They will not be competing this weekend, as they gear up for their regional meet next weekend.

7. Novi MI –
Novi will once again face MW #2 Milford at the KVC Championships.  On Tuesday, Novi beat Milford 27-29 in a dual meet.  The past few weeks have shown that Novi is a team to really keep an eye on as the season starts to come to its final few meets.  This conference meet is going to be the highlight of the next week in Michigan.

8. Hamilton Southeastern IN –
Last weekend Hamilton Southeastern lost to Carmel IN at their regional meet.  This weekend HSE will have to be on top of their game if they hope to make state.  Competing in the top semi-state in Indiana, HSE will have to compete with eleven other Indiana ranked teams to win one of the five state births in order to get to state.  They will get a chance to redeem themselves from last weekend’s loss to Carmel, and will also get a shot to move back up in the rankings as they take on MW #5 Lawrence North.

9. St. Ignatius OH – They will be competing in their district championship this weekend.  The last month has shown St. Ignatius to be one of the top teams in the Midwest and top ranked team in Ohio.

10. St. Xavier OH – Last weekend St. Xavier beat previously MW #9 La Salle OH and moved back into the rankings this week.  This weekend La Salle and St. Xavier will face off once again, as they both compete in the Southwest District at Voice of America Park in Cincinnati.

Girls

1. Clarkston MI – Like most other teams in Michigan, this weekend Clarkston will be competing in their conference championships.  The biggest test of the season is coming up in three weekends however, as they will have to face both Rockford and Goodrich at theMichigan state championships.

2. Bowling Green OH –
Bowling Green has been on a tear all season long in Ohio as they have decimated the competition week in and week out.  This weekend Bowling Green starts to rev up for the upcoming state meet.  BG will be taking their crew to the Northwest District and should have an easy time advancing to the next round of the Ohio state series.

3. Naperville North IL –
Naperville North seems to be challenged every week by some of the top teams in the state and this weekend is no exception.  North takes their amazing varsity crew to the Lockport Township regional, where they will meet four other Illinoisranked girls squads.  North’s number five runner Cindy Wu will be looking to catch back up to her teammates this weekend after taking some time off from harder training the past few weeks.

4. Waukesha West WI – Waukesha West has been the dominant girls’ team in Wisconsin this season.  With only two weeks left, Waukesha West looks to continue their push to become state champions.  This weekend they will travel to their sectional meet where they will be looking to make it to the state final without expending unnecessary energy.

5. Indianapolis Cathedral IN –
Last week Cathedral’s top two freshmen led the way for the squad, as they won their regional.  This weekend at the Franklin Central Semi-State, Cathedral should be looking for a solid pack up front and a big win heading to the state meet next weekend.

6. Rockford MI – On Friday, Rockford heads to their conference championship after taking the past week off to get in some solid training.  They should roll into next week’s sectional meet with a lot of momentum from getting progressively better the last month or so.

7. Goodrich MI – They will be competing in their conference championships this weekend.  The past few weeks have shown very well for Goodrich, so they should be looking to continue their pack running and keep on rollin’.

8. St. Ursula OH – The highlight meet of the week on the girl’s side should be taking place in the Southwest District in Ohio.  #8 St. Ursula squares off against MW #10 Mason OH, as well as previously ranked Cincinnati Colerain, who finally has a full team competing again.  St. Ursula has had a strong pack all season, but they really will need to have someone step up and take a leaders role if they hope to beat Mason and Colerain.

9. Northridge IN – They will be competing at the New Haven Semi-State, where they will face off against a few of the states best girls teams.  They should fair well and easily make it to the state meet next weekend.

10. Mason OH –
Mason has been consistent this season.  They have beaten a few very good teams a couple times and always seem to have a nice pack behind their front runner Angela Bizzarri.  On Saturday, Mason will head to Voice of America Park where they will race MW #8 St. Ursula and previously ranked Cincinnati Colerain.
