St. Xavier Cincinnati OH tops MW#9 LaSalle Cincinnati OH

LaSalle may have been primed, but they didn't run quite fast enough at league. The Bombers of St. Xavier are finally beginning to show signs of making another run for a state title, as they defeated LaSalle by a score of 44-51 in the 4 team GCL South Cross-Country Championships Saturday morning at Rapid Run Park on the west side of Cincinnati. Conditions were low 50s, windy, partially overcast, rain soaken yet firm 3 mile course, and very hilly. Below are the time break-outs for both teams.

St. Xavier
2) Rick King 15:52
4) Randy King 16:04

13) Brendan Ruberg 16:33
14) Joe Keating 16:37
16) Chris Hasse 16:45
26) Chris Schlecter 17:15

LaSalle
6) Bittner 16:15
7) Heister 16:21
8) Lang 16:23
12) Spriggs 16:30
18) Bader 16:53
22) St. George 17:10
24) Stein 17:13

The next few weeks should be very interesting as the SW Region of Ohio is by far the toughest region - with St. Xavier, LaSalle, Middletown, Centerville, and several other strong teams vying for a state berth in 2 weeks. The state title will more than likely go to one of the teams from this region or St. Ignatius. At this point, everything appears to be wide open as no one team is significantly faster than any other, despite St. Ignatius' success over the past few weeks.
