SO#1/US#20 Corpus Christi King TX entered two teams which finished 1-2 at the Calallen Invite. King sr T K Revis got his 1st win leading the way in 15:49. The team put 6 in the top 8 with a 27 second 1-5 spread. Coach Tom Castillo decided to split up his squad this week to give the younger guys a shot at a varsity meet.

SO#4 Cinco Ranch TX was on its way to an easy victory at the Strake Jesuit Invite before being led off course by a race official. "We had about 800 to go and we were 1-5 and 30 seconds ahead of number six" when it happened according to Coach Gary Derks.

SO#5 A&M Consolidated TX hosted the James Giese Invite. They ran two teams which finished 1-2 on the 6100m course. A&M jr Duncan Phillips led the charge in 19:34 as the "A" team scored 18 points.

SO#6 The Woodlands TX, SO#9 Fayetteville AR and SO#10 Tupelo MS met at the Chile Pepper Festival. It was HL#5 Potosi MO capitalizing on 4 in the top 20 to take the team title with 76 points and a 16:09 average. The Woodlands, led by individual champ sr Daniel Gerber in 15:21, finished 2nd with 111 and a 16:18 average. Lockhart TX, state ranked #2 in 4A, captured the bronze with 215. Tupelo was 5th with 255 points without its usual #3 man and Fayetteville ended up 6th with 284.

Potosi Coach Steve Davis said, "Today our top two ran well, hanging back early and then picking it up at 1.5 miles. And our 3-4-5 closed well." The Woodlands Coach Dan Green told his squad, "The Chile Pepper was our last meet before the District meet. I hope each athlete was able to learn and make final preparations for the Championship Meets. The first part of our season is a rehearsal for the District, Regional, and State".

Ft Worth Northside TX won the Haltom Buffalo Stampede over previously ranked Southlake Carroll TX by a 68-79 score. Southlake Carroll soph Colby Lowe remains unbeaten with a 16:13 effort.

Mustang OK won the Metro Conference meet on Tuesday 33-62 over runner-up Edmond North. Mustang jr Kevin Schwab took individual gold in 15:38.

Del Rio TX scored a perfect 15 to sweep the Uvalde Invite.

Jesuit LA won the Walker Shoot Out 67-71 over Episcopal. Jesuit sr Brett Guidry set a new 3-mile course record of 15:10.

Edmond Memorial OK, led by individual winner Andres Gonzalez in 16:23, edged Enid OK 43-47 at the MidState Conference meet on Tuesday.

Jenks OK captured the Frontier Conference meet on Thursday 41-51 over Broken Arrow OK.

MacArthur TX won the Sam Houston II meet 47-61 over Mayde Creek TX. Mayde Creek sr Chris Campos took the win in 15:28.


Girls

SO#1/US#9 Southlake Carroll TX met SO#4 Keller at the Haltom Buffalo Stampede. Carroll was an easy winner with 21 points and a 12:02 average for 3200m. Unranked Plano West TX took silver with 82 while Keller was 3rd with 93 points without its usual #3 girl. Carroll sr Brooke Upshaw grabbed the gold in 11:19 turning back fellow Foot Locker finalists Keller sr Carlene Mayfield in 11:40 and Carroll sr Miranda Walker in 11:52. Walker recently "took 5 days off after breaking my toe on a cabinet. I'm feeling better now and am back training."

SO#3/US#15 The Woodlands TX, SO#9 Tupelo MS and SO#10 Bishop McGuinness OK faced a tough field at the Chile Pepper Festival. The Woodlands placed 4 in the top 11 and totaled 52 points for the victory. Coach Noel Hansen felt like his top 4 ran well, but was concerned about the team title as #5 was further back than he would have liked. Tupelo MS took silver with 90 points nipping Ruston LA with 99. Tupelo Coach Nathan Hall acknowledged that it can be tough for girls trying to juggle 2 sports as was the case with his usual #3 away at a soccer tourney.
Next: The Woodlands is off this week, Tupelo hosts an invite and Bishop McGuinness runs its Regional.
