Preview - Top 10 Scoreboard

South region top ranked The Woodlands TX boys and Kingwood TX girls roll over ranked teams at Humble. Tupelo MS girls, Pearl MS boys win Mississippi College Inv.

The big meets this weekend included:

The Humble (TX) Invite on Friday featured 7 South region ranked teams. US#2 SO#1 The Woodlands boys won handily with 26 points. The US#9 SO#1 Kingwood girls won convincingly with 32 points.

The Mississippi College Invite with SO#7 Tupelo MS girls, Pearl MS, Jesuit New Orleans LA and West Monroe LA on the Mississippi state meet course. The Pearl boys took the team title with 49 points over LA #3 ranked West Monroe with 65 and LA #1 ranked Jesuit with 74. Jesuit jr Brett Guidry, defending state champ, took the individual honors in 16:29. The Tupelo girls scored 19 with a 1-3-4-5-6-11-14 finish to win easily over defending 4A state champ Pearl with 79 and state 5A runner-up Ocean Springs MS with 89. Tupelo was led by overall winner soph Emily Crow.

BOYS

#1 The Woodlands TX, #4 Kingwood TX, #5 Cinco Ranch Katy TX and #10 A&M Consolidated

faced off at the Humble Invite on Friday evening. The Woodlands went 1-2-3 and put 5 in the top 11 to cruise to another victory over a strong field. The battle for 2nd was tight with Cinco Ranch getting the nod with 115 followed by Kingwood with 125 for 3rd and A&M Consolidated with 125 also for 4th.

Kingwood sr Ryan Halleck led at the mile in 4:56 with 4 Woodlands guys in tow. Woodlands sr Daniel Lanzilotti made a big move after the mile and cruised through 2-miles in 9:59 with an 8 second gap. Woodlands sr Ben Schultz hammered the last mile to secure his first-ever varsity win in 15:39 over his teammates jr Daniel Gerber and Lanzilotti.

The Woodlands travels to the Chili Pepper (AR) Invite this Saturday. Cinco Ranch is off this weekend while Kingwood runs the Lufkin Invite.

took the team title at the Cy Fair Invite. They packed 5 in the top 9 on the way to a 29 point total with an impressive 31 second 1-5 split. Running at the Hays Invite on Saturday.

#8 King Corpus Christi TX

back in town at the Carroll Invite after a good showing at the Great American ROC last week. They got back on the winning track with a 31-69 margin over runner-up hosts Carroll Corpus Christi TX. King was led by Ari Perez in 1st who remains undefeated in Texas coming off a fine 13th place effort at the Great American ROC. Scheduled to run the Calallen Wildcat Invite on Saturday.

#9 Jenks OK

ran the “pre-state” Oklahoma Classic at Oral Roberts University on the state meet course. Coach Bryan Yockers reports that they lost by 1 to state rival Edmond Memorial, but Jenks ran without their 4th man (who will be competing the rest of the season). Shaping up to be another great battle at state as these two teams have won every Boys title since 1979. Awaiting full results.

GIRLS

#1 Kingwood TX, #8 A&M Consolidated College Station TX and #9 Cinco Ranch Katy TX

met at the Humble Invite on Friday. Kingwood went 2-3-4 and put 5 in the top 15 to score 32 and remain undefeated. The battle for 2nd was close with Cinco Ranch taking the silver with 96 to squeak by previously ranked Klein in 3rd with 97. A&M ended up 4th with 107.

A&M Consolidated sr Jocelyn Gardner set the pace at the mile in 5:29 followed closely by 3 from Kingwood. Gardner quickly opened a gap after the mile on her way to a victory in 11:10. Kingwood sr Elizabeth Alexander, jr Danielle Selner and frosh Megan Munoz finished 2-3-4.

Kingwood is at Lufkin on Saturday while Cinco Ranch has the week off.

Marcus sr Tara Gruber (state 16th, #13 state & #29 Foot Locker South returner) is coming back after a long layoff and this marked her first race this season with the varsity. Marcus is at the Thomas Jefferson Invite on Saturday.

captured the team crown at the Mississippi College Invite on the state meet course. They scored 19 with a 1-3-4-5-6-11-14 finish to win easily over defending 4A MS state champ Pearl with 79 and MS state 5A runner-up Ocean Springs MS with 89. Tupelo was led by overall winner soph Emily Crow who took her 3rd invite title of the season. Times are not available as the weather effected the equipment for this race. Tupelo has a home invitational this week.

Preview

The big meets this weekend include:

Mississippi College Invite with SO#7 Tupelo MS girls, Pearl MS, Jesuit New Orleans LA and Ruston LA on the Mississippi state meet course.

Catholic High Invite in Baton Rouge, LA which annually draws a large field.

The Lake Hamilton (AR) Invitational has over 1000 athletes registered to compete in four divisions on Saturday. The course is on the infield of the Oaklawn Park horse track in the heart of Hot Springs, Arkansas and surprising to most people is moderately hilly. This is the site of the Arkansas state meet on Nov. 6th.

The Humble (TX) Invite on Friday features Boys SO#1 The Woodlands TX, SO#4 Kingwood TX, SO#5 Cinco Ranch Katy TX and SO#10 A&M Consolidated College Station TX. The Girls race includes SO#1 Kingwood TX, SO#8 A&M Consolidated College Station TX and SO#9 Cinco Ranch Katy TX.

Mississippi College Invitational
Choctaw Trails cross country course

Site of the Mississippi state meet

This annual meet draws some of the best teams in Mississippi and surrounding states. Choctaw Trails is a true cross country course with 95% grass and 5% wooded trails. It has been the host course for two NCAA Championships and is the site of the Mississipi state high school meet.
