Kingwood TX sweeps Texas A&M Invitational. Region awaits 1st Nike South Invitational next week with more than half of the South region's ranked teams.

Boys - Girls - Texas A&M -

Boys

SO#1 US#2 The Woodlands TX did not race this week. However, their Varsity B team won the Klein Oak Invite with 29 points. Their A team ran a 6400m time trial on the track Friday morning before school. The top 5 averaged 20:42 with all at 21:01or better. Hosts the Nike South meet this Saturday.

SO#2 US#14 Cedar Park TX was off this week. Will be tested at the Nike South meet this week.

SO#3 US#25 Kingwood TX won the Texas A&M Invite with 69 points to best the 85 for SO#6 Carroll Southlake TX. Kingwood had a tighter pack than Carroll and was led by sr Michael Adams. Kingwood put 6 in the top 23 for team scoring and had a 35 second 1-5 split.

SO#4 Marcus Flower Mound TX competed at the McKinney Invite and apparently won. Final team scores are not available as there was an apparent mixup of JV and Varsity runners in the reported results. National Foot Locker #2 returner Plano TX sr Scott McPherson was the individual winner. Marcus competes at the Nike South meet on Saturday and will be looking for a smaller 1-5 split.

SO#5 Flower Mound TX did not run at McKinney as scheduled. Instead they ran a 2-mile time trial on the course as a tune-up for the Nike South meet this coming Saturday.

SO#6 Carroll Southlake TX scored 85 to place 2nd to the 69 points for SO#3 Kingwood TX at the Texas A&M Invite. Carroll sr Kevin Ondrasek led from the gun to win the individual title in 15:41 over 5K. Carroll fr Colby Lowe was 3rd in his first varsity race against a very good field. Carroll sr Orey Smith, a 9:23 performer in track, competed for the first time this season, but needs more races under his belt. Running at the Nike South Invite on Saturday.

SO#7 Brother Martin New Orleans LA won the Round Table Run hosted by Episcopal. They scored a 78 - 104 victory over St. Paul Covington LA in a meet that was in doubt due to the threat of Hurricane Ivan. Br. Martin was led by jr Andy Florek’s 15:42 winner for 3 miles, 5th place sr Mark Buchert, and 11th place sr Patrick Aucoin. At the Mt. Carmel Invite in New Orleans on Saturday.

SO#8 Jenks OK was 3rd in the Round Rock Farm XC Classic in Lawrence KS. The finished behind HL#3 Liberty MO and runner-up St. Louis U High MO. Jenks was led by state #2 returner sr Dan Maxwell's 2nd place effort.

King Corpus Christi TX is still undefeated after it's win over SO#9 Edinburg North at the Falfurrias Invite this week. Averaged 16:52 for 5K.

Clear Lake Houston TX won the Baylor Invitational with a 17:06 average for 5K to stay undefeated.

Rogers AR won the Monette (MO) Invite with 26 points. Rogers sr Michael McCullough was the individual champ with a 16:33 over 5000m. Soph Eric Molina placed 5th in 17:23 and sr Aaron Jefferson was 7th in 17:34.

Edmond Memorial OK won the team title at the Mustang Invite 23-34 over host Mustang OK. Mustang soph Kevin Schwab set the pace enroute to a fine 16:11 for 5K. This was just off the 16:08 course record by 2003 state champ Aaron Snyder from Mustang. Edmond Memorial was led by sr Jordan Powell's 16:24 for 2nd and sr Dan Szatkowski's 17:35 for 4th.

Girls

SO#1 US#9 Kingwood TX won the Texas A&M Invite 32-54 over SO#3 US#21 Carroll Southlake TX. Kingwood displayed excellent pack running to overcome the 1-2 finish by Carroll. Had a 68 second 1-5 spread. Will be at the Nike South meet this Saturday.

SO#2 Highland Park TX won the McKinney Invite 54-75 over SO#8 Marcus Flower Mound TX. Top five averaged 19:40 for 5K. Scheduled to run the Arlington Martin Invite this weekend.

SO#3 US#21 Carroll Southlake TX was 2nd by a score of 32-54 to SO#1 Kingwood TX at the Texas A&M Invite. Carroll jr Miranda Walker pulled away from teammate jr Brooke Upshaw in the last mile to win the individual crown. Running at the Nike South Invite on Saturday.

SO#4 Marcus Flower Mound TX placed 2nd to SO#2 Highland Park at the McKinney Invite. They will be at the Nike South meet next.

SO#5 Cedar Park TX was off this week. Will be at the Nike South meet this week.

SO#6 Tupelo MS won the Saltillo Invite finishing three points shy of a perfect score with 18 points against Mississippi 4A powers Saltillo (second with 53 points) and Pontotoc (third with 74 points). Tupelo soph Emily Crow won the girl’s 4K race with a time of 15:48. At the Mississippi State Invite this Saturday.

SO#9 Cinco Ranch Katy TX won the Spring Branch Invite. Their top 5 split was exactly 1 minute. At Nike South on Saturday.
