Host US#2 boys and South#8 girls sweep The Woodlands Invitational. Cedar Park TX sweeps at Lockhart Inv with South#3 boys and South#6 girls. South#7 Jenks OK boys beat South#10 Edmond OK in Guthrie Inv.

US#2 The Woodlands boys may be young, but they still had a whole lot of red shirts up front
in their season opener, The Woodlands Invitational.

The Woodlands sweeps team and individual honors, led by juniors Daniel Gerber and Cheryl Spring.

South #1 The Woodlands TX (also US #2) hosted its traditional season-opening invitational. This meet is typically stacked and an early-season indication of contenders for the state 5A crown since boys teams from the Houston area have won every state title since 1984. However, this year’s field was smaller and not as strong as it fell a week earlier than it’s usual Labor Day weekend spot.

The Woodlands dominated on the new 5K course which is also the site of the new Nike South Invite. They took control early and finished 1-6 & 8. The Woodlands travels to the Kingwood invite next week to face South#2 Kingwood.

#3 Cedar Park TX won their opener over 2 miles at the Lockhart Invite beating 4A powerhouse Lockhart and 3A contender Elgin. They had 5 in the top 9 with a 6 second split. Cedar Park will be running at its own invite next week.

#5 Carroll Southlake TX captured the title at the Greenhill Relays. This cross country meet features 4-man teams running a total of 6 miles. . However, the course was shortened this year due to inclement weather. Each man runs a leg and hands off a glove to the next runner #8 Marcus Flower Mound TX placed 5th in this non-conventional race.

#7 Jenks OK took the Guthrie Invite with 28 points over #10 Edmond OK with 48. This race was 2 miles.

Girls

South #1 Carroll Southlake TX (also US #5) won the Greenhill Relays. This cross country meet usually features 4-man teams running a total of 6 miles, but it was delayed & then shortened due to weather this year. Carroll’s team consisted of Miranda Walker (Jr, 4:53/10:32, state 2nd, #2 state & #4 Foot Locker South returner), Brooke Upshaw (Jr, 4:53/10:38, state 4th, #3 state & #16 Foot Locker South returner), Brittney Alberto (Sr, 2:16/5:03, state 11th, #9 state & #12 Foot Locker South returner) and Kirsten Brown (Jr) .

#3 Marcus Flower Mound TX placed 3rd and is hoping Sr Tara Gruber returns to form as she makes a comeback from an injury which caused her to miss the track season. Unranked 4A powerhouse Highland Park TX was 2nd and is definitely a team to watch. These teams meet again next week at the Marcus I Invite.

South #8 The Woodlands TX was a victorius host of its traditional season-opening invite. The Woodlands looked strong on the new course which is also the site of the new Nike South Invite on Sept 25. The girls beat local rival #7 Klein. Next week Klein and The Woodlands travel to the Andy Wells (Kingwood) Invite to battle #2 Kingwood (also US # 19).

#6 Cedar Park TX opened the season in defense of its state title by taking the Lockhart Invite. They had 5 in the top 13 with a 36 second split. #10 Georgetown was 3rd behind Westlake. Cedar Park will be hosting an invitational next week.
