1 Hoover XC Club

AL Class 6A state meet
Last year's state runner-up is poised to get back to their winning ways.
NC state signeed, Robert Bedsole is poised to win his second straight title. He has a strong top five which will try and improve on their 16:45 and 16:46 showings the past two weeks. Smith Station and Mtn Brook should be their strongest challengers. In class 5A, defending state champs Scottsboro is a strong favorite.

2 Tucker XC Club Richmond VA

Class 3A State meet
Tucker has been in a precarious postion the last two weeks. After a sensational performance at the Great American Festival where they finished second behind a strong showing from their top 4, Tucker ran into bad luck when Thuom Mathiang went down with an injury before districts.
A 12 point defeat by Douglas Freeman followed. With Mathiang back, they rebounded with a 12 point win at regions over Freeman. Mathiang was 1:36 behind Michael Chapa, Tucker's number 1 runner. At Great American, he was 55 seconds behind. Saturday, they will belooking for a win after last year's 8th place showing. Douglas Freeman will again be challenging by strong contingents from Oatkon, who has been much improved in the post season(9 point loss to Jefferson at districts and a 28 point loss at regions), and Thomas Jefferson, the deepest team in VA( top 7 within 45 seconds of each other at regions).

Individually, Tucker's Chapa, 4th last year, and Woodside's Derrick Robbins, 3rd last year, will be the top two favorites. Chapa has been dominating running 15:12 at regions and 15:21 at the Great American. Robbins has been equally as impressive, but has yet to be challenged this season.

SE Girls

1 Oakton XC Club VA -

Class 3A State meet
After a solid 4th place showing at Great American and wins at district and regions, Oakton seems like a lock to win. Impressive considering they did not score as a team at state last year. Lake Braddock has been their closest challenger, 31 points behind at regions, but has been sporadic. A complete race from them will make it interesting.

Individually, two titans, freshman Aurora Scott of Western Branch and Melissa Dewey of Hayfield will race each other for the first time this season. Both have been winning by large margins and are considered strong favorites to make the Foot Locker Cross Country Nationals in San Deigo in December. Dewey's eye opening 16:42 mark for the 2.98 Lake Burke course at districts and a subsequent 17:07 on the same course gives her a slight nod. But the young Scott has been equally as impressive posting 18:03 at regions last week.

2 C. M. Wright XC Club MD -

Class 3A State meet
No challenges at state. Expect a run away for them on a very tough course. Formerly SE ranked Eleanor Roosevelt is the class of 4A and will give a good idea of how good C. Milton Wright is.

3 St. Paul's XC Club Mobile AL - 4 Scottsboro XC Club AL-

Class 5A State meet
Tara Lenn is back and running strong. Her 18:08 showing is her best this season. She'll be backed up by a strong #2 in Mary Johnston. They enter the meet undefeated this year and winners of last year's state championship by 6 points. Scottsboro was on the short end of the stick last year and this season. They've come close, but will need a strong effort from their top 5 to unseat St. Paul's. Caitlin Chitwood and Hannah Thomspon are rested and could offset St. Paul's duo. But as in all cases, 3-5 runners will be critical. Mtn Brook is the class of 6A and is a lock for the state title. This young group has been a close second to Scottsboro and will be looking to have their best race at state.

Individually, St. Paul's Tara Lenn(5A) and Vestavia Hill's Laurel Pritchard are the top runners. Pritchard is undefeated this season and posted the fatest time at state, 18:11, last year.
