Weekend Highlights:

  • Four of PA's outstanding class of Shot Putters were over 40' in the two meets at Slippery Rock this weekend, Allyn Laughlin, Center; Heather Hess, Kane; and Natalie Clickett, Union City Area; on Friday, and Samantha Fetter, Hempfield, on Saturday.
  • North Allegheny's Max Brown and Ellwood City's Jake Walker ran a very fast mile for the facility and the lack of spikes, going 4:19.3 and 4:20.1, respectively. Brown came back in a very few hours and ran 1:59.5 to win the 800.

  • In NY at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational, West Catholic's Latavia Thomas won the 1000 meters JR women in 2:51.48.
  • On Friday at the Millrose Games, Liz Costello took 6th in 5:03.95.
  • Also on Friday, Breehana Jacobs of Laurel Highlands, won the 55 dash and 200 in West Virginia.
  • At Saturday's Colgate Women's Games at Madison Square Garden in NY, Benita Taylor of Engineering & Science, won the 800 and was 4th in the 400.
  • Saturday was also the final round of association meets for the Philly-area girls and boys. The 4x800 was extremely fast and deep at the girls' meet, with nine teams under 9:52, led by Archbishop Prendergast in 9:33.1, PA#3.
  • In Division 1 boys, West Chester East's Duriel Hardy went 1:59.0, while at the Division 2 meet, Upper Dublin's Matt Gordon went 1:58.5.
  • Kutztown University held their final indoor high school meet of the season. Chanelle Price of Easton, won the 400 in 58.73 and the 1600 in 5:13.99.
  • Sunday saw Charelise Davis of Laurel Highlands taking two seconds in the 55 Dash and 200 at Kent State in Ohio.
  • Susquehanna University hosted their indoor meet and saw some top sprints from Susquehanna Township's Karlise Curteon and Lewisburg's Kalle James-Wintjenfor the girls, and Juan Steward of Cumberland Valley, for the boys.
  • Reading's Jazmin Hunt and Chandalyn Winchester moved into the top five in PA with quick 55's, Hunt in the hurdles and Winchester in the dash at the Albright HS Indoor #3 on 1/31.

 

1/31: Albright College HS Invite #3:
Summary:
Exeter's Travis Savidge continued to win events, taking the Long Jump with a 21-04 effort and the 55 Hurdles in 8.2 seconds. Reading's Jazmin Hunt moved into the top five in PA in the 55 Hurdles with a quick 8.4 in the 55 Hurdles. Chandalyn Winchester accomplished the same in the 55 dash, going 7.1 in the prelims.

 

2/2: TSTCA Pole Vault Competition @ Butler HS:
Summary:
Pine-Richland's Zach Meverden continued to hover above 14', clearing that height to clear the competition at the vault-only meet. Teammate Megan McKee won the girl's event at 9-06.

 

2/2: Glen Mills Invitational #1 @ Glen Mills School:

Summary: North Penn, Wissahickon, Upper Dublin and West Chester Henderson all moved into the top eight 4x800 teams in the state with great times. North Penn takes over PA#2 with their 8:04.10, while WIssahickon moves into PA#3 with their 8:05.36. North Penn's Brandon Turner is now PA#2 with a Triple Jump of 45-05.25. And the Glen Mills' throwers took three of the top four spots in the Shot Put behind the winning 53-09.25 by Nathan Stewart. And North Penn posted quick wins in the 4x200 (1:34.18), and 4x400 (3:32.61).

Summary: State Shot Put leader Allyn Laughlin of Center had to throw 43-10.75 to hold off two other throwers who joined the seven-member PA 40-foot club, as Natalie Clickett of Union City went 42-00.50 and Kane's Heather Hess matched the throw. McDowell's Alexandra Acker cleared 11-06 to win the Pole Vault. For the boys, Altoona's Zach Epple won the 800 in 2:01.8 and the 3200 in 10:27.0. McDowell posted a quick 4x200, going 1:35.8.

Summary: Once again, the quality of the girls' 4x800 is showing as the indoor season heads for the championship portion. Archbishop Prendergast posted the 3rd best time in PA this season, winning by over seven seconds with a time of 9:33.1. North Penn was 2nd at 9:40.6, while Villa Maria, Hatboro-Horsham, Gwynedd-Mercy, Cardinal O'Hara, Haverford, Central Bucks West, and West Chester East were all under 9:52. West Chester Henderson went 4:03.3 to improve their PA#4 ranking, while Methacton went 4:05.6 to move into PA#6. Their star, Ryann Krais, continued to dominate on the 55 Hurdles, going 8.0. Karen Shump of Penncrest prepped for her coming showdown with cross- state competitor Allyn Laughlin of Center, by throwing 43-05.25. Hallahan's Shanea Thomas went 37-03.50 to win the Triple Jump.

Summary: Easton's Chanelle Price got in some speed and distance work, winning the 400 in 58.73, which is now PA#5, and the 1600 in 5:13.99, improving her PA#3 ranking in the event. Milton Hershey took 2nd in the 4x400, going 4:06.11. In the Pole Vault, Beki Finn of Liberty and Abbie Schafer of Easton were one-two, with Fin clearing 12-0 and Schafer going over at 11-06. William Allen's Rushane Scott edged Central Dauphin's Martise Scott in the 55 Dash, 6.59 to 6.68. York's Tony Dennis went 22.90 to win the 200 by .15 over Norristown's Mike Pearson.

Summary: West Chester East's Duriel Hardy improved his season-best 800 to 1:59.0, moving into PA#3. Henderson's Chris Ferry was 2nd in 2:00.9. The Hatboro-Horsham squad of Kevin Davis, Same Strong, Adam Denney and Josh Hrabe posted a 10:40.4 win in the Distance Medley Relay, which is PA#2 by just 3-tenths of a second. William Tennent's Jay Pittenger is clearly at the top of this season's High Jump class, clearing 6-06 for the second time this season.

Summary: Matt Gordon of Upper Dublin, improved his PA#2 800 ranking with a season-best of 1:58.5. Trevon Rainford of Engineering & Science, moved up a spot in PA to #4 in the 3000 a solo win in 8:53.6. Wissahickln didn't improve their PA-leading 10:40.1 in the Distance Medley Relay, but they came close with a 10:43.4.

Summary: Ellwood City senior Jack Walker set the early pace in the Mile, as North Allegheny's Max Brown was comfortable to hang on his shoulder until the final quarter of the race, when he put in a gap and held on to win in 4:19.3 to 4:20.1. Those are the #1 and #3 times in PA this season, especially run on the unbanked tunneled Slippery Rock track. Sean Gil of North Allegheny, cleared 15-03 to take the Pole Vault and improve his PA#1 ranking by three inches. PA Shot Put leader Samantha Fetter threw 43-03. Bradford senior Erin Hannon won the Triple Jump with a leap of 38-04.50, just a half-inch off her PA#1 mark. Caitlin Hewitt of Latrobe, cleared 11-07 to win the Pole Vault. In the 55 Dash, Oakland Catholic's Charelise Davis ran 6.9 to win.

 

2/5: Susquehanna Indoor High School Classic @ Susquehanna University:
Summary:
Susquehanna Township's Karlise Curteon moved into the top seven PA hurdlers with a a 55 run of 8.77, a meet record. Lewisburg'sKalle James-Wintjen went 7.40 to set a meet record and win the 55 Dash by just .04 over Chamberburg's Anyssa Barbour. Cumberland Valley's Juan Steward took the 200 in 22.98, 5th in PA. And teammate Curtis Bixler battled it out in the 1600 with Unionville's Paul Springer, winning in 4:25.21 to 4:25.55.

 

2/5: USATF Mid-Atlantic Indoor Youth Meet #3 @ Lehigh University:

G-PV: Jacqueline Meissner Vertical Assault 11'03
Summary: Saucon Valley Schuylkill Valley's Devan Coon won the HS Girls 400 in 1:00.6. Shatievah Lewis of Human Services HS, took 3rd, and also won the Long Jump, going 17-05. For the boys, Engineering & Science athletes Jamar Jones and Trevon Rainford had a good day, with Jones taking the 400 in 52.3 and Rainford going 4:14.0 to win the 1500.
