At the 5000m Carlisle Invitational, Coatesville PA placed five scorers in a 47-second compression ahead of the Manheim Township #3 runner to win by 61 to 75. As is their style, Coatesville goes out hard and challenges other teams to pull them in. Manheim Township was coming back, but just ran out of real estate, placing their 3-6 runners within ten seconds of Coatesville's 5th. Coatesville coach Keith Andrew was happy for his guys to reach the finish line ahead...

The win is a big rebound from their loss to NE#7 West Chester East PA two weeks ago at the Abington Invitational, a race where they led after two miles. Craig and Brad Miller each broke the old course record, with Craig establishing a new mark of 15:23, a 15- second improvement. Coatesville next hosts the Steel City Invitational on 10/1.

Three Unranked Northeast teams beat Southeast #2 Oakton VA, 4th in Seeded Boys. Bishop Hendricken's average of 16:21.80 places them in the top four of the two races for team average. Also in the Seeded race was SE#10 Pinecrest NC, which finished 13th. PA teams Malvern Prep and LaSalle College HS reversed their finish of a week ago at Briarwood, when they finished behind NE#9 Cardinal O'Hara and formerly ranked Ridgewood NJ.

Race of Champions @ Great American XC Festival, Cary, NC – With five in the top 30 and a compression of 1:17, Saratoga Springs easily maintained their elite status by beating SE#3 Episcopal FL, NE#7 Jackson NJ and NE Pre-Season #7 Bethlehem Central NY, which went 2-3-4, respectively. Jackson NJ coach Glenda Glenda Calabro was happy with the team's effort, especially considering the quick early pace and the pressure of a first-time race of this magnitude for some of her team. It was the first time this season Bethlehem Central had been able to put nearly a full squad on the course. They get a top five athlete back by the middle of October. NE#10 Ridgefield CT was 13th.

9/24 Queensbury Invitational, 5k, the site of the 2005 New York State Championships, introduced a couple of new teams to the weekly discussion, and revives discussion on some others. Hilton NY has been near the top all season, and now as NE#2, could be a clear challenger to US#1 Saratoga NY by the time November rolls around. Their 39 points were 47 better than Academy of Holy Names in 2nd. Holy Names overcame NE#6 Suffern NY (3rd), NE#5 Shenendehowa NY, which was 6th, along with Honeoye Falls-Lima NY, 4th, and Columbia NY, 5th. Two weeks ago at the Shaker Invitational, Shen had beaten Holy Names.
Suffern also beats a team they had lost to on September 10th, when Cornwall NY (7th) had gotten the better of them at the Wizard Invitational. Suffern did sit their #2 runner, which may have impacted 2nd place, but not taken the win.
