Preview - Top 10 Scoreboard - New York Federation Championships - New Jersey Meet of Champions - Ed Grant's NJ MOC Report -

Quote of the Day: "Knowing how difficult it is to have five or more runners "peak" at one point in time, their performance is even more impressive. Kind of like they peaked all season! Great dedication, team chemistry (at least looking in from the outside) and probably some pretty decent coaching too!"
- Coach Bob Eberhardt of NE#3 Lockport NY after his team, and every other NY boys' team was soundly defeated by US#1 Fayetteville-Manliuis at the NY Federation Championships 11/20

Top 10 Scoreboard

Boys

#1 Fayetteville-Manlius NY
#3 Lockport NY
#5 Chaminade NY
#10 Saratoga Springs NY
Unranked Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake NY
Previously ranked Monsignor Farrell NY
Previously ranked Warwick Valley NY

OK, the 12-second spread that Fayetteville-Manlius unleashed on an unsuspecting Manhattan Invitational field was pretty impressive. Well, try just nine seconds at Feds. Soph Tom Gruenewald led the pack at 16:09 in 6th place, and in less time than you can zap your coffee, Andrew McCann, Owen Kimple, John Heron and Jared Burdick were across the line; the final scorer in 16th. Their 34 points ultimately dispelled any discussion about their status as the nation's #1 team. NE#4 Lockport was at 152 points, with Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake in 3rd, NE#10 Saratoga 4th and NE#5 Chaminade in 5th. Walt Whitman sophomore Ryan Sheridan controlled the race with a 15:43 win.

To place five scorers in the top five of most invitationals is a feat. To do it at the NY Federation Championships is... well, more ammunition for the 'best of all time' discussion. As expected, Saratoga won. It was the margin that was remarkable (even though Tullyrunners predicted the score at 24). Their 22 points behind Nicole Blood's 17:27 win was 120 better than unranked Shenendehowa in 2nd place. That's right, it wasn't NE#2 Bay Shore. NY coaches had been saying for weeks that they thought one team would catch them. But it wasn't just Shen, it was also NE#7 Bethlehem, getting 3rd with 145 points. Bay Shore was three more points back, with NE#5 Hilton in 5th with 151, and NE#6 Cicero-North Syracuse 6th with 166.

But the repercussions from "Feds" at Bowdoin Park NY
and "All-Groups" at Holmdel Park NJ could be felt nationwide.

Unranked Old Bridge NJ

All Groups is similar to Federations, as the four public school sections compete against the two Parochial school sections for statewide bragging rights. CBA is the clear favorite. But Toms River North had an off day at Groups 11/13, and on a perfect day, could get close. They were within 13 two weeks ago at the Shore Conference meet.

Saratoga Springs would have to miss the start to miss the win. But three teams believe they have a legit shot at #2 Bayshore. This will be the race of the day. And it's half of the Northeast's ranked teams. Unreal!
