Great Meadows Invitational

9/14/02 at The Plains VA -
5k, state meet course but with major hill run in both the 2nd and third miles.

US#10 Thomas Jefferson S&T boys win both varsity races behind Christo Landry 16:02 and Keith Bechtol 16:06. Henrdon VA girls beat US#21 Robinson VA girls. Potomac's Jill Porto 19:06 catches Jessica Hess for individual honors.

 


Boys - Girls

Boys

Thomas Jefferson S&T, VA boys won the both varsity competitions. In the "A"
race Jefferson scored 52 pts, beating Midlothian 119pts and Westfield
159pts. Jefferson placed 4 runners in the top twenty including Christo
Landry 1st 16:02, Keith Bechtol 2nd 16:06, Brian Hanak 6th 16:30, Tarik
Jones 17th 16:49 and had a #5 in 26th at 17flat (Kyle Smith). Jefferson won
the "B" race with 41 pts and had 3 runners in the top ten and 5 in the top
fifteen.
Note: 2nd place Midlo ran without projected 1-2 man Andrew Baker and
Brandon Miles(#2) ran with a slight injured knee.

Individually Landry and Bechtol, shared the pacing duties with Joanna
Reinhardt of Jamestown until they gradually pulled away in the last mile.

 

Girls

Herndon, VA girls won with 112pts beating JW Robinson with 124 and Hayfield
125, Herndon had a 13 secs spread from 1-3 placing 3 girls in the top twenty. Twenty-three
schools participated in the race which allowed upto 10 entries per team.
Individually somewhat unknown Jill Porto of Potomac ,VA won the girls race
with a downhill surge in the last 300m meters after Jemissa Hess (CD Hylton) and Joanna Rodgers(JW
Robinson) did much of the leading.
