US#2 Mountain View boys win easily; Amber Harper and Orem girls upset US#13 Mountain View Girls

Orem sr Amber Harper 17:52 3m was fastest of the day and led her team (1, 6, 7, 15, 19) to a 48-51 win over US#13 Mountain View (1, 6, 7, 15, 19) in class 4A, with the issue going down to the fifth runner. Weber sr Steve Shepherd 15:36 won boys class 5A in the fastest time of the day (Mike Steele, Mountain View 15:39), but US#2 Mountain View was the best team of the day, winning class 4A with 27 points (1, 2, 4, 9, 11) and beating US#14 Davis, the class 5A champion, in combined scoring 65-98.

5A- Fremont girls defended their title with a narrow 62-67 victory over Davis. Jamie Stubbs of Fremont was the individual champion in 18:40. Davis boys also defended with a 42-85 win over Bingham. Weber’s Steve Shepherd turned in the fastest time of the day with a 15:36 win over Davis’ Jace Nye, 15:49.

4A- Orem girls upset Mountain View 48-51. Orem’s Amber Harper had the days fastest time running 17:52, eight seconds faster than Mountain View’s Heidi Magill. Mountain View boys defended scoring only 27 points to Timpview’s 87. The Bruins Mike Steele and Steve Strickland ran 15:38 and 16:02 to finish 1-2.

3A- Park City’s girls scored 65 points to defeat Ogden by seven. Judge Memorial’s Samantha Gaffney ran 18:39 to win the individual title. Judge Memorial scored 38 points to easily win the boys championship over Cedar, who tallied 87. Hurricane’s Tony Jones ran away with the individual title with a time of 16:00.

2A- Richfield swept all individual and team titles in 2A competition. Kristen Frohlich ran 20:01 to lead her team to the girls title as they outdistanced Juan Diego 38-62. Clark Abraham ran 16:54 as the boys defeated Parowan 34-53.

1A- St. Joseph’s won both team titles as the girls narrowly defeated Wayne, 40-43, and the boys ran away from Bryce Valley, 26-102. Claire Filloux of Waterford ran 18:58 and Nick McKay of St. Joseph 15:50 to capture the individual titles.

Combining results of all races, Davis’ girls would have scored 135 points to squeak out a narrow victory over Fremont (139), Orem (164), Mountain View (166) and Skyline (188). Mountain View’s boys would have finished with 65 to Davis’ 98, Bingham’s 213, Timpview’s 234 and Provo’s 246.
