TSTCA Meet #2 @ University of Pittsburgh -
Hickory's Andrew Rademacher is clearly the early leader in the Pole
Vault, this time clearing 14-06. The Thomas Jefferson boys took the two
sprint relays, capturing the 4x200y in 1:37.3 (West Mifflin 1:37.3), and
the 4x440y in 3:44.2. For the girls', Schenley took both the 4x220y
(1:49.8) and the 4x440y (4:16.2).

Friday, January 3, 2003 -
DVGTCA Meet #4 @ Kutztown University - Juanita
Broaddus, William Penn, went with the 55 Hurdles and 300 yards, taking
both wins, 8.83 and 36.8, respectively. Dobbins ran with and then away
from William Penn in the 4x200 going 1:50.9 to win by over a second.
Perkiomen Valley pulled off a win over a strong St. Hubert's 4x800
squad, going 9:50.7 for 4.3 second gap. Nicole Leach, West Catholic, was
unchallenged in the 200 with here 25.9. West Catholic frosh Latavia
Thomas ran into last year's frosh sensation, Krista Simkins,
Wissahickon, in the 400, with Simkins pulling off a one second win in
58.6. Distance aces Maressa Pinzini of Cheltenham, and Jessie Yester,
Downingtown, showed solid middle diistance wheels, with Pinzini taking
first in 2:21.4, with Yester 2nd in 2:23.2. The 3000 had a few new
competitors this week, but remained one of the strongest events.
Cardinal O'Hara senior Danielle Schopf had the best day, going 10:42.3.
St. Hubert's junior Amy Kelly was 2nd in 10:46.2, while Bensalem junior
Ashley Kelly was 3rd in 10:47.3.

Saturday, January 4, 2003 -
TFCAGP Division 1 Meet #4
@ Haverford
College - Tyree Suber, Glen Mills, returned to the circle and unleashed
a throw of 54-03 in the Shot Put. St. Joseph's Prep has a high jumper
this year in Juan Cave, who cleared 6-04 to win by four inches. Kevin
Akins, North Penn, edged Tracy Robinson, West Chester Henderson, in the
200, both clocked in 23.0. And William Tennent's 4x200 went 1:36.9 to
hold off Neshaminy.

Saturday, January 4, 2003 -
TFCAGP Division 2 Meet #4 @ Haverford College -
Harriton's Dan Engle tied a meet record in the 60 dash, going
7.1, edging Upper Moreland's Kwesi Nurse, who was also timed in 7.1.
Oxford 400 ace Drew Eckman broke his own meet record being pushed to a
50.4 by Cardinal Dougherty's Brendan Reilley. Mark Korich, Springfield
(Montco) ran a strong 9:03.6 3000. In the Long Jump, Conwell Egan's
Steve Slayton went 21-04. The Strath Haven 4x200 went 1:34.6 to win by
almost five seconds. And in the 800, it was Great Valley's Ben
Franczuscki won in 2:00.2.

1/4 - Kutztown High School Opener @ Kutztown University - Kourtney
Marquis, Pennsbury, improved from earlier efforts and cleared 10-09 in
the Pole Vault to take 1st. In the 55 Hurdles, Tiffany Nesfield, of CH
Flowers (MD) went 8.46 to hold off Kamilah Salaam of Glasgow (DE), who
was 2nd in 8.51. Salaam did get two 1st place medals, capturing the 55
Dash in 7.35 and the 200 in 26.21. Toni Aluko of Paint Branch (MD) took
the girls' High Jump, clearing 5-06. Ephrata's Betsy Sensenig (10:42.7)
beat Red Lion's Kate Papenberg (11:06.9) in the 3000. In boys'
competition, Wyomissing's Travis Quillman clearned 6-04 to take the High
Jump. Double winners included Mike Downs, Delcastle (DE) in the 55
(6.73) and the 200 (23.51); Josh Fritz, Northwest (PA) in the 800
(2:02.61) and the 1600 (4:35.25); plus the CH Flowers (MD) relays in
both the 4x400 (3:32.58) and the 4x800 (8:45.67).

 

1/4 - Lebanon Valley College High School Invitational #1 - Angie
Saterstad ran alone, but paced her way to an easy win the the 3200,
going 11:13.3. Cedar Cliff soph Janelle Young captured both the mile
(5:34.0) and the 800 (2:30.1). Montgomery (MD) sprinter Sharifa Love
took the 200 in 27.4 and the 400 in 62.1. In the field events,
Harrisburg's Rachelle Edrington won the Long Jump, going 16-07.25, and
the Triple Jump, leaping 35-01.25. In the boys' competition, Shot Putter
Ryan Whiting of Central Dauphin won by over nine feet, throwing 54-09.
Harrisburg sprinter Rome Potts (below) won three individual events, the 55 Dash
in 6.82, the 200 in 24.4, and the 400 in 55.2.
