Summaries

1/31 DVGTCA Meet #8 @ Lehigh: Improving performances on the track and in
the field events, including a new US#3 and #4 DMR as the Hatboro-Horsham
squad of Nicole Murphy, Megan Rae, Caitlin Klass and Janine Ricci went
12:23.9 to beat St. Hubert's by less than three seconds (12:26.7). In
the 400, William Penn's Juanita Broaddus cruises to a 57.4. At 800
meters, West Catholic's Latavia Thomas wins in 2;16.9. And in a strong
Mile, Perkiomen Valley's Sarah Roberts holds off Prendie's Nicole O'Dea
and O'Hara's Danielle Schopf to win in 5:16.8. Sammandi Lawrence, Upper
Darby, sailed 17-08.25 in the Long Jump, while Boyertown's Natalie
Miller cleared 5-04 in the High Jump.

2/1 Susquehanna Indoor Classic @ Susquehanna University: Josh Smith,
Selinsgrove, joined the 44-plus club in the Triple Jump, going 1/2
behind that for the win. Chambersburg Kylee Schuler posted a strong
11:19.79 3200. Lewisburg's Ashleigh Wetzel won the girls' 1600 in
5:21.87. In the boys distance races, Cedar Cliff senior Pat Philbin went
9:41.0 in the 3200, and State AA XC champ Chris Spooner, Lewisburg, took
the 1600 in 4;30.62. Reading soph Jessica Forrest captured the 55 Dash
in 7.44 and the 200 in 26.73.

2/1 TSTCA Meet #5 @ Robert Morris University: North Hills' sprinter
Andrew Johnson knocked off another tenth as he took the 55 Dash in 6.2
seconds and now shares the top spot in PA with Kenny Covington of
Lancaster McCaskey. In the 55 Hurdles, Hickory's E.J. McLaurin easily
took first in 7.5. Mt. Lebanon's 4x400 and 4x800 squads were victorious,
going 3:46.9 and 8:27.3, respectively. In girls' competition, Julianna
Reed, Hampton, held off Sha-Tira Snell of Penn Hills by .1, going 8.3.
North Allegheny's Shannon Yon cleared 5-5 in the High Jump, the best in
PA this season. Double winners included Carletta Nance, Penn Hills,
going 7.2 in the 55, and 27.1 in the 200; plus Upper St. Clair's Julie
Cameron, taking the 800 in 2:23.6 and the 1600 in 5:22.9.

2/1 TFCAGP D2 Meet #2 @ Kutztown University: Eight meet records were in
everything from the sprints and distance events, to field events. The
outstanding records were in the 3000 as Mark Korich, Springfield
(Montco) went 8:59.0 to break Mark Stalling's 1998 record; and in the
Triple Jump, as Methacton's Blake Taylor went 44-02.75.

2/1 TFCAGP D1 Meet #8 @ Kutztown University: A Shot Put dual between
LaSalle's Bruce Pohlot (53-09.25) and Cardinal O'Hara's Bob McDade
(53-07). Juan Cave, St. Joseph's Prep, again cleared 6-04. And North
Penn took two relays in a meet that saw nine new records.

Friday, January 31 - F&M Meet #2 @ Franklin & Marshall College - Juniors

Kate Papenberg, Red Lion, and Frances Koons, Allentown Central Catholic,
battled in both individual distance races. Papenberg captured the 3200
by two seconds over Koons, going 11:24. In the 1600, both were timed in
5:22, with Papenberg again getting the edge. However, Cedar Cliff soph
Janelle Young was timed in 5:18 for the win in the 1600. Lewistown's
Emily Lexley was a double winner, taking the 55 Hurdles in 8.4 and the
200 in 27.4. In boys competition, Oley's Zach Fogel cleared 6-04 in the
High Jump. And the 4x200 provided a tight finish, with Harrisburg going
1:36.5 to nip 2nd place York by .2 and 3rd place Dallastown by 1.3
seconds. Drew Eckman, Oxford, went 50.2 in the 400 for the victory.

Friday, January 31 - Slippery Rock Meet #2 @ Slippery Rock University -
The Christiansens invaded the confines of Slippery Rock's indoor track,
and each came away with a win and a second place finish. Jesi easily
captured the Two-Mile Run with her 11:23.2, but took 2nd in the 800 in
2:25.6 to a Magnificant HS (OH) runner who finished in 2:23.3. Jed took
his Two-Mile, going 9:48.5, but was runner-up in the 800 in 2:08.1 to
Maplewood's J. Palmer, who went 2:05.7. Valley's MyCah Clemons went
18-02.50 in the Long Jump, the 2nd best in PA this season. Clemons also
won the 55 Hurdles, going 8.49 in the Prelims (tops in PA) and 8.59 in
the Finals.
