4A Albuquerque - Los Alamos sweeps

District 2-4A

In Albuquerque, on Halloween, the Los Alamos girls and boys breezed through their district meet with 15 and 16 points, respectively, while looming ahead this week is a state meet showdown with long-time rivals, Albuquerque Academy. Both schools have held the top two positions in the state's combined-classes coaches poll for much of the season.

Kristen Hemphill led the US#2 Los Alamos girls to the District 2-4A title with a 20 second win over teammate and FL finalist Heather Wood. Hemphill's 17:13 on the 2.9 mile course around the St. Pius X High School campus, led a 1-7 sweep for the Hilltoppers, including an impressive 41 second top-5 pack time.

Daniel Hemphill, Kirsten's older brother, just missed on a second straight district title, as teammate Brad Pulliam out leaned Daniel for the win, with both runners clocked at 14:56. Daniel Abeyta, of St. Pius X, prevented the top five finish, but the Hilltoppers were dominant in taking six of the first seven spots with only 28 seconds separating their 1st and 5th runners.
