Forys' 9:20.59 may be US freshman record

Colts Neck NJ freshman Craig Forys (4) ran 9:20.59 for 3200 meters, finishing just 0.02 behind Parsippany Hills sr Jeremy Zagorski 9:20.57, in the New Jersey Group 3 championships at Princeton Sunday (2/15). Jack Shepard's HIGH SCHOOL TRACK annual carries freshman class records for 2 miles that are several seconds slower -- Ryan Deak 9:29.10 in 2001 and Brian Dalpiaz 9:27.50m in 2000. According to Track and Field News' BIG GREEN BOOK, Forys' time would convert to 9:24 for 2 miles. Forys will be 15 in July.
