Netters:

11/12/02 -- Lindsay Van Alstine, defending all-group CC champ in NJ got the OK
today to resume full training and will be seeking her 4th consecutive
Parochial B title this Saturday at Holmdel County park

Van Alstine had suffered a strees fracture earlier in the season
after winning the F race at the Shore Coaches Invitational on the same
course. She had earlier set a course record of 17:28 at Darlington Park in
the Season Opener Invitational.

She will not have an easy time on Saturday for she faces Essex
County champ Jen Croghan of Lacordaire Academy, who ran 19:27 on the muddy
Warinanco Park course last Saturday. And, a week later, she must tackle the
Trotter twins, Katy and Amanda, to defend her title in the all-group meet

Should Lindsay win saturday, she would become the fourth NJ girl to
win four group titles. The first was Janet Smith of North Edison (1980-83),
who won the Footlocker (Kinney then) national title in her senior year (and
ran that race four times). Then came Erin Donohue of Haddonfield, 1997-2000.
Smith won all her titles in Gr. IV (NJ's largest schools), while Haddonfield
won the first two in gr. I and the next two in Gr. II.

Croghan will be one of several freshmen trying themselves to begin a
four-year string this weekend. She would have been a shoo-in without Lindsay
in the field. Best bet now among the yearlings is Jen Clausen of Jackson,
who has lost only one NJ race this season, in Gr. IV (two of her main rivals
are fellow frosh Jenn Ennis of Roxbury and Kellee Hand of Howell, who also
won sectional titles last Saturday), with Brittany Sedberry of Ocean City
and Brittany Bynoe challenging two-time champion Jesse Mizzone of Passaic
Valley in Gr. III.
