This is the biggest and most competitive of the Nebraska large-school
conference meets. It encompasses all of the Omaha metro area. The
meet was held Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday was a washout, with
over two inches of rain, but the meet went on. Wednesday was a beautiful
day for track with sunshine and highs in the mid 70s.
Meredith Snow was the girls' star of the meet. The Millard West
freshman broke the Metro Conference records for the 1600 (5:02.79)
and the 3200 (10:47.95). The 3200 was especially impressive because
it was run in a driving rain, and it ranks eighth all-time for Nebraska
girls. Unfortunately for Nebraska prep track fans, Snow is moving
to the St. Louis area this summer. She was also the Class A state
champion in cross country this fall.
Bellevue West junior Ben Delay doubled in the 1600 (4:21.38) and
the 3200 (9:41.54). Benson junior Jack Lemke ran an impressive 800
in 1:54.73 in the Tuesday downpour. Defending Class A 400 champ
E.J. Falkner breezed to a win in 48.8.
The Bellevue West boys and the Omaha Central girls surprisingly
claimed the team titles. The Benson boys and the Burke girls were
the favorites coming in.
