Scribner 15:26 sets course record

by Lynn Holland

Robert Scribner set a new course record at the Oxford Invitational Cross Country meet at Old Country Park in Oxford on Saturday. His time for three miles was 15:26 and he led the Tupelo High boys to the team title. Tupelo’s varsity girls and junior varsity boys also were team winners with the Tupelo junior varsity girls getting edged out by Oxford for the second straight week.

The number of teams competing was down from the two prior weeks due to a conflicting meet at Mississippi State University.

The Tupelo varsity boys performed well putting eight finishers in the top 15. In addition to Robert’s first place finish, Jack Boettcher was third, Mike Weeks fourth, Will Stewart fifth, Drew Kellum eighth, Alex Brown 11th, Chase Elliott 12th, and Andrew Rulewicz 13th. Without Pontotoc competing to take some of the top spots, the team score was not as close as the past two weeks with Tupelo finishing with 21 compared to Saltillo’s 34.

Team results for the varsity boys race are as follows: Tupelo 21, Saltillo 34, Oxford 112, Potts Camp 126, Senatobia 163, Lafayette 244
