Wichita City League

Wichita Heights won it's eighth boy's title in the last nine years,
and Kapaun Mt. Carmel (115) edged Wichita Northwest (108) for the girl's
title.
Heights was led by Tevan Everett, who won the 400 in 49.0 over Nick
Kreutzer (Kapaun Mt. Carmel 50.4) and contributed to a 3:22.9 4 x 400
win. Height's Brice Wilson won the 110H in 14.4 over Chris Allen
(Northwest 14.5, and Wilson also won the JT at 167-1. Odell Harris
(West) won the 100 in 10.6 with Bryon Smith (Heights) second at 10.7,
then took the 200 in 22.1. Matt Ozor (Heights) was a close second, also
in 22.1 Harris also contributed to West's 42.7 4 x 100 win, with
Heights second in 42.8.
Zach Carbienier (Northwest) won the the LJ at 21-2.75 (Ryan Waterson
of Carroll second at 21-0.25) and HJ at 6-4. Brock Phillips (East) won
a 4:32.9/ 10:00.0 distance double, narrowly beating Bishop Carroll's
Danny Rice each time (4;34.9/ 10:02.1). T.P. Martin (Southeast) won the
SP at 50-10.
Boy's team scores: Heights 157.5, Bishop Carroll 129.5, Kapaun Mt.
Carmel 53.5, North 50, West 46, Northwest 40, East 34.5, Southeast 31,
South 16.
Kapaun's girl's won their title off the strength of distance
runners. Emily Dittemore won the 800 in 2:24.6 with team mate Erin
Floyd second at 2:26.4. Dittemore also won the 400 in 59.8 over the
60.9 of Alice Newberry (Northwest). KMC also won the 4 x 800 in 10:14.6
and 4 x 400 in 4:11.6, and got a 9-6 PV win from Erin Kirsch.
Elizabeth Marsh (East) won narrow victories in the 1600 and 3200
from Courtney Johnson (KMC) with marks of 5;18.0 to 5:18.2 and 11:44.9
to 11:50.8.
Chrisdell Harris (West) won the LJ in 17-3.25 over Ebony Phillips
(Southeast 17-2), and also won the 100 in 12.4, with Phillips at 12.5.
Southeast won a 50. 4 x 100.

MIAA
Hillsboro overwhelmed the boys field, scoring 184 points, and
narrowly edged Hesston in the girls race 98 to 91. McKee (no first name
reported) from Halstead vaulted 14-7.5 to win from Caleb Marsh
(Hillsboro 13-6) and Jordan Regehr (Halstead) won the 400 in 51.3.
Standout girls performances included Kate Schaake's (Wichita
Collegiate) SP (39-9.5)/ DT (139-6) double, Hammond (Hesston, no first
name reported) 17-8.25 LJ win, Wray (Hesston, no first name reported)
10-0 in the PV, and Thompson (Lyons, no first name reported) 11:57.12 in
the 3200.

Central Plains League @ Cheney
Garden Plain (137) shaded Cheney (120) for the boys title, and also
won the girls title with 185 points to Cheney's 115.
Big throws on the boys side included a 191-5 JT for John Goldsmith
(Cheney) with Garden Plain's Jennings (no first name reported) second at
183-9 and Kelly Mies third at 180-5.5. Goldsmith also won the DT at
165-4.5. Sean Teter (Garden Plain) won the SP at 52-1.5. Vincent Reel
(Chaparral) won the 1600 in 4:39.2 .
Katie Robben led Garden Plain with a 12.81/ 26.11/ 59.60 sprint
triple win, and team mate Michelle Mitchell added a 10-6 PV victory.
Cheney ran 10:09.12 to win the 4 x 800 and had a 2:26.42 800 win from
Chelsea Twietmeyer.

Great Gold Plains @ Norwich
Pratt Skyline won the girls title and Norwich took the boys. Kelsey
Poljansek won a SP/DT/JT triple to lead Norwich, with the best mark her
37-3 SP win.

Centennial League @ Topeka
Topeka Seaman boys won their 11th title in the last 13 years, while
Topeka Highland Park won their first girls title since the 1970's.
Seaman was led by Grant Cain, who won a the 1600 in 4:28.1 over
Shea Camien (Emporia 4:28.6) and Nick Garcia (Emporia 4:31.1) and
returned in the 3200 for a 9:52.2 win over Neil Ternes (Emporia
9:59.3).
Highland Park's Jared Huske continued an outstanding season with a
four victories, winning the 110H in 13.7, the 100 in 10.6 and the 300H
in 38.6, plus a leg on a 42.9 relay win.
Adam Reilly (Topeka Hayden) roared to the state's fastest time in the
800, winning in 1:54.8, with Nick Garcia second at 1:58.6. Reilly also
ran on a winning 3:25.0 4 x 400
Boys team scores: Topeka Seaman 170, Emporia 150, Topeka Highland
Park 86, Topeka Washburn Rural 54, Topeka Hayden 51, Topeka Shawnee

Sasha Spann led the Highland Park ladies with a 40-0 win in the TJ
and a 17-5.5 LJ win. Trisa Nickoley (Shawnee Heights) won the 1600 in
5:04.7, with Layne Moore (Emporia) a distant second at 5:25.7. Moore
then won the 800 in 2:23.0. Washburn Rural showed good distance power
with a 10:04.5 4 x 8 win, and got a 1-2-3 in the 3200, led by Sarah
Atwood's 11:45.0 win.

I-70 League @ Salina
Junction City won both the boys and girls titles in the final I-70
league meet. Next year the leage will split, with team joining the
Chisholm Trail and Centennial Leagues.
Anthony Wilson led the JC boys with a 14.19 110H win. An
outstanding 100 saw Jake Sharp (Salina Central) run 10.52 to take the
measure of Brandon Logan (Junction City 10.68) and Randy Bailey
(Junction City 10.83). Sharp also won the LJ at 22-5 and the 200 in
22.27 with Bailey second at 22.55. Salina Central's Kellen Johnson
launched the SP 57-1.
Boys team scores: Junction City 121, Salina South 111, Manhattan
104, Salina Central 97, Topeka West 69, Topeka High 53
Ashley Lewis led the JC girls, winning the 100 in 12.28 and running
on a 49.68 4 x 100 winner. Bonnie Snyder of Salina Central won the 200
(25.65), 100H (14.61) and took second in the SP.


Friday 5/14./04

Sunflower League @ ODAC, Olathe
Shawnee Mission South won the 4 x 400 to edge Lawrence Free State 122-121 for the boys title, while a tough Leavenworth squad scored 179.5 to outdistance Olathe East (141.5) for the girls title. Competition was close and intense throught the day and night at ODAC. All times are FAT
Keith Rainey (SM North) led the sprints, winning the 100 (10.77) over John Childs (Leavenworth 10.87) and the 200 in 22.29 (Childs 22.56).
Danny Schneider (Lawrence Free State) dominted middle distance action as part of a 1600/ 800/ 3200/ 4 x 4 quad. Schneider won the 800 (1:59.4) narrowly over team mate Nick Squier (1:59.5) and Matt Morton (SMNW 1:59.8). Schneider used a late kick to win the 1600 in 4:22.19 from Morton (4:27.03), and then placed fifth in the 3200 at 9:55.27). Tucker Weems (SMNW) won the 3200 in 9:43.49 with Drew Beggs (SM South ) scoring a big PR at 9:49/09. Will Tramp (SM North) was trhird at 9:55.27. Free State also ran an 8:09.06 4 x 800 to hold off SM Northwest (8:12.69) and SM East (8:16.91).
Derrick Mims (Olathe North) domintated the hurdles, winning in 14.76 and 40.37, and contributed to a 43.41 Olathe North 4 x 100 win.
SM South won the 4 x 200 (1:32.51), medley (3:43.95) and 4 x 400 (3:27.19) with Free State second (3:27.39).
Field event marks were highlighted by Mike Rivera's (SMNW) 56-9.5 SP win over Brad Penny (Lawrence 52-8.5), Todd Haslehorst (Olathe East 51-6.5) and Dan Jones (SM West 51-2). Haselhorst came back to win the DT at 153-5. Mike Garrison (SMNW) won the JT at 189-1 and Olathe North's Austin Turner won the HJ at 6-4 with Olathe East's Zach Atzeni second at 6-2.

Leavenworth's girls used relay wins in the 4 x 100 (49.57), 4 x 200 (1:49.3), 4 x 400 (3:59.17) and 4 x 800 (10:05.41 over SM North's 10:09.35) to parlay the win.
Sprints were fast with Alysha Smith (Olathe East) running 12.26) to win the 100 from Tiesha Stewart (Leavenworth 12.53). Charity Stowers won the 200 (25.57 with Smith at 25.87) and 400 (58.65).
Kristen Wolkey (SM North) ran 2:23.9 to win a hot 800from Heather Klotz (Leavenworth 2:25.0) and Alysha Valencia (Lawrence Free State 2:27.87). Valencia had earlier run 5:17.19 to win the 1600 from Connie Abbott (SM South 5:22.67) and Alysha Galbraith (Olathe South 5:31.6). Hayley Harbert (SMNW) (11:27.51) won a hotly contested 3200 from Abbott (11:31.98) with Mandy Puhak (Olathe East) third at 12:00.11.
Hurdles race went to Kelsey Randall (Lawrence Free State 15.95) and Kristen Erlich (SMNW 48.37) with Randall at 49.6.
Rachel Falke (Olathe East) won the SP at 42-5.5 and DT at 135-4 by large margins, while Lauren Abney (Free State) won the JT at 135-8. Good jump marks were turned in by Alysha Smith (Olathe East), winning the LJ at 17-0.25 over Tiesha Stewart (Leavenworth 16-11.25) and Danille McCray (Olathe East 35-3) and Smith (35-2.5) in the TJ. Sam Frisbie (Free State) won the HJ at 5-4.

South Central Border
South Haven won the girls title with 156 points over Oxford (111) and West Elk (96). Aneisa Slack (Oxford) won a unique 100 (13.02)/ 800 (2:30.08) double. Oxford won the boys title with 140 points, with South Haven (128) and Burden-Central (119) next. Devin Nickel run the 400 in 50.8 and also took the 800.
