Olathe North Invitational @ Mahaffie Park, Olathe KS, Wed 9/11/02
Olathe East swept all four divisions of the Olathe North
Invitational over the rugged trails and hills of Mahaffie Park. East's
Beth Messerly won over 2.2 miles in 14:33 to lead the East girls to a
1-2-3-5-10 finish and a 20-56 victory of Shawnee Mill Valley. North
Kansas City (MO)'s Spencer Dudley defended his individual title with a
16:00 3 mile in the boys's varsity race. Olathe East went packed five
runners in the top ten to win the team title 32-56 over Mill Valley,
with Olathe North third at 72.

Hutchinson Invitational @ Carey Park, Hutchinson
A match-up of some of the top runner's in central and western Kansas
saw Maize's Liz Kramer (12:14) run away with Hutchinson Invitational.
Kramer, the state 6A 1600 champ, is in her first serious season of cross
country. Melissa Ortiz (Wichita West 12:36), Morgan Bonds (Hutchinson
12:37), Lauren Bonds (Hutchinson 12:47) and Kendra Chambers (Great Bend
12:50) followed. Liberal defeated a strong field with 50 points,
followed by defending 5A champ Great Bend 61, Maize 98, and Dodge City
115.
Defending 6A champ Ryan Wilson (Wichita Heights) dueled with
Hutchinson's Tyler Roark before pulling away at the end for a narrow
16:35 to 16:40 victory. Scott Rome (Hays) was third at 17:02, followed
by Brent Graves (Liberal 17:03) and Great Bend's Tanner Marshall
(17:03). Liberal completed a sweep of the team title's, winning with 93
points to Hays High's 101. Maize (101), defending 5A champ Great Bend
(108) and McPherson 120 followed.

Coffeyville Invitational
Led by Rachel Bloom's second place finish, Pittsburg put four
runners in the top 10 to win the Coffeyvillle Invitational. Chanute's
Megan Haight won the individual title in 12:45, edging Bloom by two
seconds. Grant Shaffer (Independence) won the boys title.
