Illinois Week

October 11 - details on Illinois Runner.com Week 6

Senior Matt Withrow (Andrew) ran 14:41 on a 3.0 mile layout at the Rich Central Invitational. He beat the next closest competitor by 1:13!

Senior Eric MacTaggart (Glenbard South) won the St. Charles East Invitational in 15:09 over a 3.0 mile course. He beat a few all-state potential runners by over a half minute.

Sophomore Jon Popejoy (Wheaton Warrenville South runner and son of the great Ken Popejoy) ran 15:03, to win the West Aurora Invitational, winning by nearly a half minute on the 3.0 mile course.

Senior Christina Fiduccia (Barrington) beat a solid field, running 17:31 over a 3.0 mile course. She continues to run strong after many great wins this year thus far.

The biggest result came from a freshman girl. Katelyn Bastert (Carthage) beat sophomore Amy Laskowske (Palatine, and last years AA 3200m outdoor state champ) by 19 seconds at the Metamora Invitational. Laskowske is one of the favorites for state this year, so seeing Bastert beating her by that much makes you wonder just how great this frosh is. She has been beating everyone all year. She is in Class A, so she is the easy favorite there, but she could quite be the best female runner in Illinois.

That is a short review of this weekends top harrier performances. York took the weekend off from competing, Palatine girls and Barrington girls (#1 and #2 in the state) won their invitationals incredibly easy, and Glenbard South (who was ranked in the Harrier in the #2 poll) won their invite despite being in top form.
