Teams getting ready for county and conference championships

This week was pretty low key, with most teams resting up for their county and conference meets over the next couple weeks.

State meet favorite, senior Meghan Braffet (Normal West) beat a solid field at the Wheeling Invitational, finishing in 17:17 on the three mile layout. She beat last years eighth place finisher at the state meet sophomore Jessie Morgenthal (Wheeling), who finished second in 17:54. Sophomore Gada Qafisheh (Wheeling), who was second behind Erika Odlaug at last years state meet, had a disappointing race, finishing in sixth place.

The #1 Sandburg girls finished first at the Blackhawk Stampede, dominating the field, and winning with 30 points. Second place was Naperville Central with 108 points.

On the guys side not much occured. State favorites, Matt Withrow (Andrew) and Stephen Pifer (Edwardsville) both won their races easily. The third of the state favorites, Sam Romanoski (Lake Zurich) took the weekend off from racing.

Thats all from here in Illinois. The next few weeks promise to be exciting though as the state meet draws near.
