Los Alamos sweeps, Glen Randall 16:04 meet record at 7,500 feet elevation

Los Alamos NM made the trip north a big success by sweeping the team titles, with Doherty Colorado Springs CO second in both races.

The US#1 Los Alamos girls opened their fall season with 25 points, nearly 100 points better than Doherty's 122. Los Alamos' top five were 1:30 faster than last year’s US#2 ranked squad. Los Alamos jr Kristen Hemphill won the race in 19:07, an improvement of 58 seconds over last year. Heather Loseke (CO state 3200 champ) of Pueblo East finished 2nd eight seconds back. Marisa Sandoval was next for Los Alamos finishing 3rd overall. FL finalist Heather Wood, who resumed part-time running 3 weeks ago after a 6 week layoff, finished 5th overall and 15 seconds better than in ’02.

The Los Alamos boys scored 44 to Doherty’s 84 led by Kristen’s brother Daniel Hemphill, who finished 6th overall to lead a 19-second gap. Glen Randall of Palisade, CO won with a meet-record time of 16:04 in the thin air of Alamosa.
