NTN Selection Sunday 2
25 teams have now accepted invitations
11/14/04 -- Sixteen more teams were invited today to the new Nike Team Nationals (NTN) to be held in Portland OR December 4. Twelve invitations went to the teams ranked 1-2 in the Southeast, South, and Northwest regions after analyzing Saturday's state meet action. Then four at large selections were made from the 3rd and 4th ranked teams in the six regions involved in Selection Sunday 1 and Selection Sunday 2. Two teams ranked 1-2 declined because of state association rulings, and a third team declined for other reasons. The third place team in each case was offered the automatic bid.
The chart below shows the status of NTN selections as of Nov. 14. The 25 teams shown in bold have accepted invitations to the meet.
Still to be decided -- Invitations to the Northeast region will be made next Sunday 11/21. Invitations to California and two more at large teams will be made Sunday Nov. 28. If Shawnee Mission Northwest KS chooses not to attend because of state association rulings, a fifth at large selection will be made. MW#2 Madison West WI declined the automatic bid, which was then given to Northridge IN. Madison West may be added to the at large pool depending on the outcome of their appeal to the Wisconsin state association.
