Friday Prelims- Results - Finals Qualifiers - Thrills and spills as the favored teams move some on and do not move some on to the Finals!!

  • California State Meet preview - by Rich Gonzalez. Can it be the best ever? Certainly is on the girls side. Here's what Rich has to say: "The meet will be a dandy, with national record assaults in the girls 4x100, 4x400, 100, (not the 200, that 22.11A is safe), HJ, PV and DT. Also features what might be the deepest 3200m boys pre-state meet field in California history, with 15 kids at sub-9:09.99 (I thought Arcadia was over already!)." - Heat Sheets
  • 1981 California State Meet remembered - For year to be the best ever, it has to beat the 1981 meet, which saw 5 national records and 12 state records. Rich Gonzalez story.
  • Southern Section: "Allyson Felix Fastest of Fast" - First came a monster anchor leg in the girls' 400-meter relay. That was followed by a winning time in the 100 that tied for the fifth fastest ever run by a U.S. high school girl under any conditions. And then came a win in the 200 with a time that was the fifth fastest ever run under any conditions. Not a bad evening's work for Allyson Felix of North Hills L.A. Baptist in the Southern Section Masters meet at Cerritos College in Norwalk on Friday. -- see John Ortega's story in the Los Angeles Times

Idaho
Julene Bailey 13-6 - Nampa ID senior claims US#1 in pole vault at Bandanna Open, with a near miss trying for a national record at 13-8.25. Bailey is now tied with Chelsea Johnson as US#2 all time (Shayla Ballentine has the record at 13-8 in 2001).
