Vin Lananna leaves Stanford - Stanford University track and cross country coach Vin Lananna, who has recruited so many high school distance runners to Palo Alto, is leaving Stanford after 11 years to become athletic director and professor of physical education at Oberlin College in Ohio. Running more then 3 seconds faster than his runner-up time at the USA Junior Nationals last week, Florida HS senior Sam Vazquez finished third in the Boston High Performance series at Bentley College 6/28. Details

  • USA Jr Triple Jump - four women fight it out beyond 42 feet.
  • USA Jr 3000 - Molly Huddle runs all alone to meet record
  • USA Jr 1500 - Ari Lambie cruises in US#12 all time time.
  • USA Jr MVP Shalonda Solomon doubles in 100m and 200m.
  • USA Jr 110H - Kenneth Ferguson starts MVP double, and James Logan CA's Kevin Craddock breaks US sophomore class record.
  • USA Jr 5000 - Colorado freshman Bill Nelson led almost the entire race, but it was far from boring when Portland OR high school junior Galen Rupp took the lead with 700 meters to go. Nelson roared back in front 200 meters later and closed with a 58.5 second last lap to win going away.
  • USA Jr 1500 - 2002's best HS miler Chris Lukezic, now running for Georgetown, repeats, and AOC Raleigh champ Sam Vazquez rallies late to get second.

Third place finish in senior USA Nationals 200 puts Los Angeles Baptist HS senior on Team USA for the senior World Outdoor Championships in Paris in August.

Named outstanding athletes of the junior division, which will send a US team to the Pan American Games in Barbados next month, were Poly Long Beach CA jr Shalonda Solomon (100-200 double), U. South Carolina fr Kenneth Ferguson (110-400 hurdle double), and Notre Dame fr Molly Huddle (meet record 9:19.52 in the 3000 meters).
