At Landover MD, at the Metro Run and Walk Holiday Invitational run by Webb's coach Scott Raczko, new pro Alan Webb ran a 1000 meter time trial with training partner and former South Lakes VA high school teammate Richard Smith. Smith paced through 600 meters, and then Webb took over for a 1:54.4 800 meters en route to 2:23.86 for 1000 meters, just off Webb's US high school indoor record of 2:23.68 set in his senior year at South Lakes.
