Analysis: Field event superstar Thomas fresh off of her prelim 60H victory took the narrow victory over a very competitive field that had four competitors over 19-0. Clayton and Butts came into the competition with a season bests of 20-0.
However, they couldn’t quite match the multi-talented ace from the Golden State. Thomas enjoyed the win over tough competition but was miffed that her technique wasn’t quite right. She had some problems with the runway: “I could have done better… I really couldn’t hit the board and I wasn’t consistent.” Thomas vowed to do better in her other specialty later in the weekend- the triple jump.
