B-100 and 200
A good deal of the pre-meet attention in the boys sprints was focused on recent “Mr. Ohio Football” recipient Brandon Saine of Piqua, OH, but with Saine a no-show in either short sprint, the spoils were divided among a pair of California speedsters.  In the 100, Jahvid Best (Salesian CA) got out well in lane 6 on Dondre McDonald (Inglewood CA) and the rest of the field, but it was McDonald coming up on the outside in lane 7 and finding just enough daylight to slip past and take the short dash, 10.58 to 10.59.  Best exacted a measure of revenge in the 200, where he turned the tables on the finish order, flashing off the curve in his bright red singlet with a lead he never surrendered.  Best: 21.40 for first; McDonald: 21.69 for second.

G-100
Mt. Eden CA senior Cherrelle Garrett and St. Elizabeth CA freshman Ashton Purvis waged two memorable sprint battles at Arcadia.  The first, in the 100 meters, came on the heels of am earlier meeting between these two in which Purvis nipped her elder Garrett, 11.64 to 11.65.  Here, seniority prevailed, as Garrett got off to a quick start and held off a fast-charging Purvis, closing hard on the outside in lane 8. The margin of victory—11.65 to 11.66—was the same as the previous week: 1 hundredth of a second.  Two fast 100s, two different weeks, divided by two hundredths of a second.
