Craig Forys finally won the big one. Forys, a Michigan recruit from Howell Township, N.J., was
the runnerup here last year. And Matt Centrowitz (Arnold, Md.) beat him at last year's Penn Relays. Forys
was beginning to look like a candidate for the Washington Generals, perennial bridesmaids to the Harlem
Globetrotters.
Until Sunday, that is, when Forys finished second in this event in 9:01.57. “Finally!” he said, triumphantly
raising his arms over his head in celebration.
Centrowitz, Forys's long-time rival, moved into the lead for the first time with a lap and a half to go. But
on the backstretch of the bell lap, it was Craig's turn to move into first. The pair raced down the
homestretch to ear-splitting tumult, with Forys finally shedding his status as an also-ran.
Luke Puskedra (Ogden, Utah) was third in 9:07.50.
“I've got the win,” said Forys, a senior at Colts Neck High School in New Jersey. “I've gotten second
enough times. The biggest release is to get this off my back. Now, if I die or anything, I don't have to
worry about winning.”
Forys and Centrowitz both have running in their blood. Matt Centrowitz's father, also named Matt, was a
1976 Olympian and the 1979 Pan Am Games gold medalist at 5,000m. Forys's brother Matt was the IC4A
3,000m champion last week in Boston.

Boys 2 Mile
Luke Puskedra UT led through half a mile in 2:21, with Ryan Collins MA second.
Boys 2 Mile
Craig Forys moved into second after three quarters in 3:29 and the mile in 5:43.
Boys 2 Mile
Forys moved to the lead
with five laps to go.
Boys 2 Mile
Puskedra got the lead back
with 2 laps to go.
Boys 2 Mile
Matt Centrowicz MD took his shot at the lead on lap 15.
Boys 2 Mile
Forys recaptured the lead at the bell and headed into the homestretch with a step on Centrowicz.

Girls

Mighty Mite Brasovan enjoys cutting big girls down to size
by Elliot Denman
Wellington, Florida is often known as "the polo capitol of
America."
Now, though, Wellington fans have a lot more to boast about than folks
whacking at a ball from the side of a horse.
Namely - Ashley Brasovan.
The Wellington High sophomore is only 4-foot-11 and was about a head
shorter than anyone else in the girls two-mile final.
Brasovan never noticed the size differential, blowing out a tough field to
clock a 10:25.41 victory and nearly notching an all-time U.S. sophomore best,
faling just 34/100ths shy of Sara Bei's 10:25.07 in 1999.
"I always like running against bigger girls," she said. "It's a challenge
and when I do beat them it's even more fun."
Her immediate goals: to grow past five feet and to run the deuce in the low
10's.
Emily Infeld's 10:32.41 and Kayla Hall's 10:34.52 grabbed the 2-3 places -
from a distance. All 12 second-section runners broke 11 minutes.
Jackson Memorial's Amanda Marino - who has had a brilliant career running
for the Ocean County. NJ Jaguars - took the morning section in 11:04.63,
holding off Jensen Beach, Florida's Emily Houston (11:05.84) and Peddie School,
NJ's Rachel Provost (11:07.75.)
For the early-risers (no easy feat on the day the clocks sprung forward an
hour) this 7:30 a.m. special got the meet going on a solid competitive note.
Girls 2 Mile
Haley Moody TN led Hannah Davidson NY and Ashley Brasovan FL through a half mile in 2:34.
 Girls 2 Mile
Aurora Scott VA (14), who won the 5k the day before, starts to work her way through the pack after trailing early.
It was still one big pack after a mile in 5:17 and 10 laps in 6:40.
Girls 2 Mile
Catherine White VA took a turn
on the lead.
 Girls 2 Mile
Brasovan asserted herself after a mile and a half in 7:56 and no one came close after that. Girls 2 Mile
