A year ago at the Nike Indoor Nationals, Sean Holston (Springfield, Va.) qualified for the 60-
meter final but had to scratch. This year he ran in the finals of the 400 and 200, and won both races.
Holston covered the track in 21.53, with Thomas Speller (Norfolk, Va.) second in 21.98. Third went to
Kenneth Brooks (Durham, N.C.), winner of the first section in 22.07.
“This year I'm a completely different runner,” said the 5-8, 145-pound Holston. “This year I'm more of a
quarter-miler dude, so it's easy to break down to the 200. I figured I'd keep up with Chesson [Anthony
Chesson of Midlothian, Va., third in the fast section] and take him on the turn.”
Holston said he's narrowed his college plans to Tennessee and Florida State. Sunday's double should
give him additional leverage.

200 meters – qualifying: Eleven heats were contested, with the eight fastest advancing to two heats of four on Sunday.

1st heat: Shane Wells (Brownstown, Mich.) won in 22.30.

2nd heat: Anthony Chesson (Midlothian, Va.) was first in 22.18.

3rd heat: Sean Holston (Springfield, Va.), who qualified for the 400 earlier Saturday, won this heat in 21.68.

4th heat: Josh Hembrough (Ada, Mich.) was first in 22.53. Hembrough's also entered in Sunday's 60m hurdles.

5th heat: The winner was Juan Steward (Enola, Pa.) in 22.46.

6th heat: Junior Brandon Bing (Wyncote, Pa.) won in 22.23.

7th heat: Sophomore Kenneth Brooks (Durham, N.C.), who won a heat in the 400m qualifying round but failed to advance, made it to the 200m final with a winning time of 22.37.

8th heat: Like Brooks, Nevin Gutierrez (Riverside, Calif.) was a heat winner who didn't make the 400m final. Gutierrez advanced in the 200m with a win in 22.48.

9th heat: Hunter Furr (Lewisville, N.C.), a sophomore, was first in 22.65.

10th heat: Kelvin Hardesty (New Bern, N.C.) came in first in 22.38.

11th heat: Thomas Speller (Norfolk, Va.) won the final heat in 22.22, followed by Charles Johnson (Clinton, Md.) in 22.35.

Advancing were Sean Holston, Anthony Chesson, Thomas Speller, Shane Wells, Brandon Bing, Charles Johnson, Kenneth Brooks and Kelvin Hardesty.

Holston qualified for last year's 60 meter final, but couldn't start. This year, he's set to go in the 200 and 400.

Kenneth Brooks NC won section 1 of the final in 22.07 and was third overall

Girls

Jordan doubles

by Elliot Denman

Crown Victoria did it again.
Victoria Jordan, the Desoto, Texas devastator, came right back after her
60-meter triumph to take the one-lapper in 24.26.
Wesley Chapel, Florida senior Teona Rodgers, second in the hurdles,
collected a second silver in 24.38, with Chesterfield, Va.'s Shameka Claiborne third,
running a 24.65 out of the first race of the two-section final.

200-METER QUALIFYING - DeSoto, Texas junior Victoria Jordan seems the class of the field after her 24.38 qualifying run, clearly tops in a field of 52 who ran in 11 heats.

The next echelon had Wesley Chapel, Florida's Teona Rogers at 24.63, Arlington, Texas's LaKeidra Stewart at 24.65, and Matthews, N.C.'s Gabrielle Glenn at 24.88. It took a 25.19 to advance.
